Lincolnton is a town in Tyrell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. Lincolnton is the county seat of Tyrell County. It was founded in 1784 by General Andrew Johnson and named for Colonel John Lambert, who had fought with Johnson during the American Revolution. Lincolnton was laid out in 1784 by General Andrew Johnson as part of a land grant to Colonel John Lambert from King George III. In 1824, Lincolnton became one of twelve towns in what would become Tyrell County. At that time, it consisted of only three white homes and five slaves. The town's first store was built on July 10th, 1825 by Alexander Dunham and his brother-in-law Amos Vance Sr.. After a fire destroyed the original building in 1830, a new store was built on Station Road across from present day Lincolnton High School. In 1841, Lincolnton residents voted to incorporate as a village; this vote resulted in the name change to Lincolnton Township (later renamed Tyrell County). On July 12th 1865 local citizens voted to annex portions of Surry County into their township - this annexation resulted in the town's current name. In 1865–1966 Drury Lane Elementary School served as both an elementary school and high school; it closed down due to budget constraints after just one year of operation. A new elementary school opened at 201 N Main Street on October 20th 1966 which served students until 1985 when they were moved to nearby Gates Middle School which also closed down after just one year due to budgetary constraints and multiple expansions over its years of operation which could not keep up with student demand. The post office continued serving residents until it closed on December 15th 1984 due to budget cuts – mail service ended at that location permanently effective January 1st 1985Thus ending more than fifty years of continuous mail service between Lincolanton & Gatesville! On November 5th 1993 representatives from both towns met together at Cunninghams Creek Baptist Church where they formulated an agreement under which each community would operate its own public library within five years from that date creating what would eventually become the Gateway Library System Partnership (GLSP). The library system opened its doors on February 12nd 1998 with about 350 books including twenty percent Title 8 materials! It has since grown greatly thanks not only to donations but also financial support from various foundations throughout our region! Today’s economy depends heavily upon agriculture so much so that many farmers have taken up residence along Lake Wylie Boulevard east side giving them access directly TO all facets of government services without having anything else close by! They are able to offer some unique perspectives on life here unlike most people who live close enoughtto experience those things firsthand
