Lincolnton is a small town in the Lincolnton County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It's located on the Pee Dee River and is part of the Raleigh–Durham metropolitan area. The first knives were made by Native Americans in Lincolnton. There are references to knife-making from 1750 onwards, and it wasn't until 1827 that European settlers began exchanging knives for goods and services in Lincolnton. By 1860, there were over 100 knife shops in Lincolnton and over 1,000 knifemiths working in the town. During World War II, Lincolnton became an important munitions production center due to its location on I-95 near Raleigh. As a result of this activity, many local businesses closed down or changed hands during the war years. However, thanks to efforts by community members and government officials such as Mayor Harry Hargrave and Governor James Fenton Jr., most of these businesses have since reopened or been reborn as new businesses. It wasn’t until 1967 that Lincolnton had its own mayoralty election resulting in the installation of Forrest Alexander as mayor. After serving two terms (1967-1970 and 1971-1975), he was elected to serve out his third term which ended on January 3rd 1978 after being reelected with over 79% of the vote cast against him by a partisan caucus of city councilors who wanted him replaced because he didn’t support their agenda items (such as land use changes). He served one more term before retiring from public service effective February 1st 1979 having accomplished much within his three terms including helping to create what is now called “LINCOLNTON CENTER FOR THE arts” which includes The Creative Workshop Incorporated/Champion Arts Center which opened its doors on October 2nd 1974 with assistance from state funding through Cultural Resources Conservation Act (CRCA) monies managed by NCSU Extension staff member Drs Donnie McClusky & Jane Goodstein; creating The University Of North Carolina School Of Divinity School Gaseous Diffusion Machine Shop - now known as NC State University Gaseous Diffusion Machine Institute - operated under Cooperative Agreement between NC State Univ./NC Southern Univ./ Duke Univ.; establishing UNC Asheville Regional Campus/NCTech College; creation of City Council/Mayor Office; establishment of Parks & Recreation Department; initiating process for annexation of neighboring towns McLeodtown & High Point

Lincolnton is a town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is one of the more large villages in Alamance County and has been an agricultural center for many years. Lincolnton's downtown is home to the historical courthouse and jail where many events in county history have taken place. The business district around Main Street contains a variety of retailers including two banks, several restaurants and a grocery store. There are also several small businesses located throughout the village which contribute to its vibrancy and economic stability. Lincolnton started as a small community on the edge of what is now Alamance County, about 12 miles (19 km) northeast of Raleigh. In 1853 it became part of Randolph County; but when that county was merged into Alamance County in 1871, Lincolnton remained within Alamance until 1881 when it became part of Newton County because Randolph had been annexed by Newtoniano Township later that year. The first post office at Lincolnton was established on November 12, 1851; it was discontinued on February 14th, 1865 due to federal postal reform which eliminated post offices in rural areas. It re-opened on December 10th under new name "Newton". At first mail came only from Raleigh; however over time other towns within Randolph and Newton counties began receiving mail too. In 1861 Lincolnton hosted a poetry reading by John Greenleaf Whittier that served as the catalyst for developing culture hereabouts although no formal school opened until after his death in 1908; this event marked Durham's first good reputation as an educational center with adult education being available starting with matriculation for high school students in 1893/4 followed by undergraduate studies thereafter becoming increasingly common through extension courses offered locally by various institutions like UNC Chapel Hill before statehood arrived four years later bringing even more adults into this burgeoning economy during Reconstruction era up until World War II when industry collapsed leaving little net job growth or wealth creation opportunity for most citizens despite dramatic entrepreneurial spirit exhibited during early period following war boom; this fact has led some to call K-12 education here anemic while others have proclaimed success story notwithstanding wide range of challenges encountered subsequently such as persistent poverty & poverty reduction initiatives since then which have yielded mixed results LINCOLTON HISTORICAL COUNCIL - A group composed entirely or majority thereof (11 individuals) appointed annually consisting wholly or majority thereof (11 individuals), chaired pro tempore by Mayor Harry Denton who serves ex officio without compensation committee chairmanship...Meetings are held at 7 pm Thursdays at City Hall,...Committee work includes responsibility for building exterior walls surrounding courthouse restoration project... Releases quarterly report dated October 1st documenting progress made during meeting... meetings open public so all interested parties are allowed access

Lincolnton is a town located in Randolph County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,451 at the 2010 census. Lincolnton was founded in 1795 by General James Robertson as a place for soldiers and their families to rest and recuperate after campaigning in the American Revolution. The town formed part of the Transylvania County line until it was removed from that county on February 15, 1821 when Johnston's Creek split off from that boundary. The town name comes from Colonel John Swayne's plantation Lincolnton Plantation which stood on current-day Lincolnton Hill. The Colonel had been born near Lancaster, England in 1730 and arrived in North Carolina in 1775 as one of George Washington's main aides during the American Revolution. He married Lady Elizabeth Pemberton (died 1830) of Scots-Irish descent and they migrated to America with their four children: James Robertson Swayne (1778-1857), John Pemberton Swayne (1780-1824), Mary Anna Swayne (1782-1845), and Eleanor Pemberton Swayne (1785-1864). Lincolnton developed into a small frontier town with several stores, a schoolhouse, some churches including First Baptist Churchestablished about 1810, two slave plantations run by African Americans named "New Hope" and "Green Gables", three wagon ways leading into Randolph County - one going out to Homeville where woolen cloth was spun for export to England; one going east along Randolph Road through Cattaraugus County; one going west along Johnston's Creek Road through Lenoir County. In addition to these general commercial activities there were also many farmers engaged in raising cotton, tobacco etc., providing employment for many people within the community. The citizens of Lincolnton voted on November 3rd , 1800 to approve incorporation as a village/town under the leadership of Representative William Brownlow who served as its first mayor/councilmember It should be noted that at this time towns did not have local elections but rather were governed by state officials appointed by Governor Tryon through an act known as the Town Government Act . As such township elections were not held until 1824 when they became an annual event with three offices - Mayor/Councilman; Treasurer/Postmaster; Superintendent of Schools
