Lincolnton was founded in 1796 by Colletonians and named for Colonel John Lincolnton, who fought in the Patriot War against British troops. It became a town on July 11, 1837 when it was incorporated as a village by an act of the General Assembly. On January 15, 1860, Lincolnton had its first school built and became one of five towns to be consolidated into Raleigh upon its incorporation as a city. In 1960 Lincolnton's fire department made national headlines when they were awarded the silver award for best emergency response service by FEMA during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. In 1984-1985, Lincolton's community center received a $25K grant from NC Department of Transportation which helped to fund many upgrades including new parking lot and new playground equipment. The town also committed to spending $1 million over 10 years on various beautification projects throughout town including revamping its public squares and streetlights; adding pedestrian bridges over local rivers; painting major thoroughfares around town red; and planting more than 100 trees throughout downtown area On October 3rd 2017 Mayor Tom Foley inaugurated Durham’s newest KFC restaurant located just off I-485 near Interstate 40/SR 528 in what has become known as “The City overrides chicken” due to concerns about increased traffic congestion caused by all the people coming through Durham to eat at KFC – up from just 20 customers per month two years ago! There have been countless businesses that have come and gone throughout what is now called “The City overrides chicken” but one that has truly held onto its place is Joes Pizza which opened their first store in early 2016 right before KFC moved into their current space across from UNC Charlotte campus This small pizza shop started out serving thin crust pizzas with nothing extra like wings or salads until they decided to start offering delivery too! They continue this tradition today with multiple drivers working each shift making sure your order gets delivered right away no matter where you are in town
