Lincolnton, North Carolina is a town in Buncombe County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,702 at the 2010 census. It is the second largest town in Buncombe County and part of the Asheville–Buncombe Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lincolnton was founded in 1819 as a small Presbyterian village on the site of what is now Lincolnton High School. The first post office was established here in 1836. A sawmill and grist mill were built soon afterwards and commerce began to grow with the development of a railroad line from Asheville to Lincolnton. In 1865, an addition to Lincolnton High School (now known as East High School)was completed for use by students from nearby Lenoir City who could not attend school because of construction around that time on the Lenoir-Milton Railroad line. The town became incorporated as a city in 1907 when it annexed neighboring towns West End and Springdale. In 1929, Lincolnton reorganized its government into three wards: Ansonia, Center and Cherokee. This system lasted until 1974 when it was replaced by a single ward system which has continued to this day (). Lincolnton is located near Pisgah National Forest and Strathcona National Park (). It is home to two theme parks – Six Flags Over Georgia (opened 1969) and Cedar Point (opened 1984). The area also includes several golf courses including Mission Hills Country Club (), Kings Mountain Golf Club (), Blue Ridge Golf Course () and Appalachian Country Club ().

Lincolnton is a town in Tryon County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lincolnton was founded in 1799 by Colonel James Lancaster and his wife Esther White Lancaster. The first store in Lincolnton was built on what is now Main Street by John Chinchilla and Drury Wellborn. A post office was established in 1803, and the name changed to Lincolnton in 1836. When the railroad reached Lincolnton, merchants began to sell tickets for trains coming into or leaving the town. In 1881, a hotel/inn called The Blue Ridge Inn was built on Market Street near downtown. The inn operated until 1915 when it burned down and did not reopened until 1951 as The Greenbrier Inn & Spa. In 1893, a millinery shop opened on Cumberland Avenue west of downtown which became one of the most successful businesses in town before closing its doors in 1978. This millinery shop manufactured silk hats and other clothing items for export to Europe from local mills such as Jourdan's Mills Paper Company which also produced paper products from sawmills located east of town on Moore Creek Road; these mills closed around 1910 when European demand decreased because of World War I). In 1955, an automobile dealership opened up on Commerce Boulevard which became one of the largest dealerships outside Charlotte-Mecklenburg during its heyday before shutting down in 2001 after being outed as unlicensed by state regulators who considered it illegal to sell vehicles without prior registration or insurance - this dealership remains inactive today but has been preserved as an historical landmark inside city limits.). Lincolnton has had several churches formed over time including Baptist (1893), Methodist (1910), Presbyterian (1936), Nazarene (1969), African American Pentecostal (2002) and Assemblies of God Bible Chapel (2012). There have also been schools: First Baptist School (1897), High School #1 1911–1920s, Second Baptist School 1925–1939, Third Presbyterian Church 1930s-1960s; both high schools eventually closed and were replaced with their current buildings starting with High School #2 1970–1980s while First Baptist continued operations until it too shuttered in 1998; then came Community Christian Academy 1988–1996 followed by Evangelical Lutheran Synagogue Jeffertsburg Valley Day Care 1997—2001 before finally ceasing all operations due to lack of space; later another elementary school named Cloverdale Elementary 2006—2011 followed by Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Primary School 2016—present which provides instruction through grades PK-12th grade that follows Roman Catholic curriculum
