Lincolnton is a small town located in Carteret County, North Carolina. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Lincolnton is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Lincolnton was John Aiken who came overland from Georgia in 1795. He and his family were the first white people to live in what became Carteret County. In 1814, James Folsom founded a whiskey distillery in nearby Corneliusville and named it for Lincolnton – an appropriate name for a small town located on the western border of Mecklenburg County. The post office was established at Lincolnton on March 3, 1820, by Andrew Henderson with six ballots cast. By 1830, there were twenty one residents living in Lincolnton. In 1832, Jno Cagle born near Chowanstown built a sawmill & grist mill that continued operation until 1907. The first store building in what is now Lincolnton was erected about 1830 by Mrs Gasson (Dresser) Cobboldt & ran as an general store until 1865 when it became known as the China Store which still stands today across from First Baptist Church on Post Road west of US 21/NC 27). The post office also served as a schoolhouse from 1865 to 1870 and again from 1872 to 1888; both buildings are gone but their foundations remain extant as part of First Baptist Church property line today. In 1864 US 21/NC 27 was designated State Highway #18 and later County Highway #2A; thus making it possible for locals to travel east or west off of I-77 without fear of getting lost or becoming stranded while travelling through Mecklenburg County! Mrs Cobboldt also donated her land across Post Road from First Baptist Church for a new courthouse which would house county courtrooms until 1913 when another courthouse replaced it Click here for more information about this important event! In 1915 Cherokee Indian Reservation boundaries were moved southward 10 miles due to allotment efforts so that more blacks could be brought into eastern North Carolina under the provisions of the Land Act Of 1916; this move caused much consternation among some whites who felt they had been cheated out of valuable acreage that would have been perfect locations for plantations! In 1927 Cherokee Nation sold all its remaining land within Carteret and Mecklenburg Counties including most notably parts surrounding Lincolnton so that somebody might buy it back after being forced off by white developers! This led to increased residential development around downtown Lincolton beginning around 1933 when Judge Waddell granted cityhood to Lincoltnion! At present day, many souvenir shops dot Main Street revitalizing this once sleepy town with its rich history just minutes away from uptown Charlotte!

Lincolnton is a small town in North Carolina, located about an hour and a half north of Raleigh. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. Lincolnton is one of the oldest towns in North Carolina and has been settled by English colonists since the 1630s. The town was originally named "Henderson", after Captain John Henderson, leader of a British forces that invaded central North Carolina in 1767. After Henderson's death, his troops renamed the town Lincolnton in honor of Sir Edmund Curran, who had fought with them against Spanish forces at San Jacinto. Lincolnton was incorporated as a village on December 14, 1853, and became a city on January 1, 1907. In 1951 it amalgamated with neighboring Dunn to form the current consolidated municipality of Lincolnton-Dunn. The name "Lincolnton" originated from its location on the Clinch River which flows through both towns. The river has many tributaries including two that flow into it from Johnston County: One goes under Highway 12 near milepost 4 and another flows underneath Interstate 95 just east of downtown Lincolnton. The first settler in what is now Lincolnton was Captains John Henderson and David Cartwright who arrived in 1767 during the French and Indian War between Britain and France. When they found out there were no forks in the Clinch River they decided to settle where it widened out instead of fighting for water rights like other settlers did. They built their home on land grant from Governor Tryon which included much of what is now downtown Lincolnton today as well as parts of what are today Dunn and Rutherford Counties lines respectively The original town plat showed three blocks wide by one long block deep with lots measuring up to twelve feet square with trees growing next to each other or close to roadsides for privacy . Most homes were made from logs seevetted together using animal hides (the early residents may have bought these animals). There were few if any brick buildings until later when brickmaking began around 1800 In 1853 Rev J P Stephenson moved his family here from Salisbury so he could open a store called Quaker City but this didn't last because most people here preferred country life . By 1870 there were only seventeen families living here all full time farmers while five hundred acres (twenty hectares)of forest still remained unproductive That same year James Witherspoon founded Whittington College providing education for free within ten miles (16 kilometers) radius Itanium Iron Works opened up west side of town making nails etc but problems started soon enough due to high demand without any supply also causing high prices resulting in boycotts by local farmers which caused more reliance on imported goods
