In 1858, a man named William Heizer founded the Heizer Optics Manufacturing Company in Lexington, North Carolina. The company made scopes and binoculars, starting with the Heizer's Eye-O-Scope and then moving on to other products. In 1898, Heizer Optics merged with J.B. Nichols and Sons to form J.B. Nichols & Co., which still makes optics today. The company was renamed again in 1960 to Nichols Corporation after its founder's death. In 1970, the company merged with Litton Industries to become one of the largest optical manufacturers in the world. Today, Nichols Corporation manufactures scopes for all sorts of hunting and fishing applications as well as Telescopic riflescopes for military use and astronomy uses such as astro Observatory images or Deep Sky Field research projects!
There are a number of scopes that one can purchase to improve their hunting and rifle shooting skills. In general, there are three types of scopes: air-gauge, reflex, and objective. Air-gauge scopes use physical lenses to create images on the scope's reticle. This type is most common in rifles with a bolt action design. In 1841, a British scientist named Sir David Brewster developed the first practical telescope. This instrument was made up of a viewing tube, mirror and eyepiece. The Brewster Telescope was used to unveil the universe for the first time. It took around 10 years for other scientists to develop telescopes that could also be used for scientific research. By 1896, all modern telescopes were able to view objects in space with ease.

In 1814, the Cherokee Nation ceded their lands in what is now Lexington, North Carolina to the United States. The town of Lexington was founded in 1824 by white settlers, primarily Englishmen. The town grew rapidly and became a center for trade and commerce. In 1828, Lexington voters approved a charter that allowed for racial segregation within the town. On December 12, 1938, the towns of Fayetteville and Henderson merged into Lexington to create one larger community.
