Dooley, was a self-taught gunsmith and pistol owner who decided to open his own store in 1922. The business grew rapidly and Dooley incorporated the Lexington Gun Store in 1933. One of the first things Dooley did was to begin stocking assault rifles and other large firearms, which were not available at most stores at that time. In 1938, Dooley opened up his second store in downtown Lexington and began sales of shotguns and rifle ammunition. In 1941, he opened up his third store on Mechanic Street in Lexington proper. At this point the Lexington Gun Store had outgrown its home on Mechanic Street and moved into new quarters on High Street in 1948. For many years it was one of the largest handgun stores in America. In 1967 the Lexington Gun Store merged with another firearms retailer, P&H Outdoor Sales Inc., to form The P&H Company (later P&H Firearms). In 1775, Robertson married Anne Burrell and founded the town of Burrellville on the same land as Lexington. The town was named forAnne's mother, Sarah Burrell.
