In 1814, when General Andrew Jackson invaded North Carolina during his presidential campaign, he stopped at Yanceyville while traveling down I-95 through Pender County on his way back to Virginia after victories over General McClellan at Bull Run and Antietam Creek battles respectively. When he arrived at Yanceyville he found that much of the village had burned down due to Indian raids; however, a few buildings still stand today testamenting how central this community once was within local commerce and life! After dinner that night local traders met at a Presbyterian church on High Street where plans were made for future attacks against Indian nations should Jackson be elected president! During Reconstruction following Reconstruction America changed dramatically - newly freed African Americans started moving into northern states such as North Carolina specifically because jobs available there would be better than those found south of the Mason-Dixon Line – so white southerners turned their attention towards these new arrivals instead of welcoming them warmly like they had done before black people moved into white areas! In 1872 Mayor James Fenton petitioned Governor Rutherford B Hayes for permission to erect a brick courthouse downtown – only TO BE DISMISSED BY HAYES AFTER HE REALIZED THAT THE COUNTY WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE THIS NEW CIVIL GOVERNMENT Entity AS HIS OWN! federally authorized desegregation began taking place throughout most southern states following passage of Title VI of Civil Rights Act Amendments of 1964omposed by Lyndon Johnson
