There is no doubt that the history of firearms in Lexington, North Carolina occurred during the late 1800s. The early settlers in this area were passionate about owning and using firearms, and their rifles and pistols are often mentioned as some of the most popular weapons in the region. The first guns to be used in Lexington came from England, primarily from Captain John Smith's Rifle Company. The company was formed to protect British traders on the coast of North Carolina. Captain Smith's riflemen were expert shots, and they frequently skirmished with Native Americans. One of the earliest organized shootings in Lexington took place on October 25, 1824. A group of men had gathered at a local mill for a picnic when several Shots fired at them by Indians caused quite a commotion. One man who survived was John Sikes, who later served as Mayor of Lexington from 1828-30 and 1836-39. The first gun store in Lexington opened its doors on November 3, 1829. It was called "Guns & Ammunition" due to its location next to where today's Copley Square stands. At that time there wasn't any real market for firearms outside of London or New York City; however,gunsmiths such as Isaac Nichols started making quality firearms available to locals soon after opening his store. In 1830 Sheriff Fenton erected a fence around what is now downtown Lexington because he believed that citizens were being allowed too much access to arms by criminals and riffraff (vagrants). This event is often considered one of the beginning steps towards law enforcement in Lexington – one which has continued uninterrupted until present day!

The ordinance also allowed for the sale and possession of handguns by civilians only. On December 6th 1933 amendments were passed that repealed all prior ordinances governing firearms in Lexington.

Lexington was founded by the Cherokee in 1795. The town was named after Lexington, Kentucky, which at the time was part of Virginia. In 1801, Lexington became a county seat of Rowan County and continued to be so until 1907 when it became a separate county. The courthouse in Lexington is the oldest standing structure in North Carolina and is also one of the most important historical landmarks in the state. Other attractions located in Lexington include the Samuel Johnston House, which is home to a museum that tells the story of life in Lexington during its early years; and Holyoke's Millsavers' Shop, which has been used for manufacturing products since 1793.
When the first white men arrived in what is now Lexington, North Carolina, they were not welcomed. The area was full of Native Americans and the first Europeans who came to this land were those who had come looking for gold. They found nothing but wilderness and starvation. The Englishman named Cecil Webster tried to set up a colony in 1692, but he only lasted a year before he died from the cold. In 1715, another Englishman named John Lawson arrived in Lexington and set up a small town called Wilmington on the banks of the Yadkin River. He built a sawmill and some other mills around 1720, which helped make him rich. But by then it was too late: The Virginia Company had taken over Lawson's business and destroyed his mills. In 1801, when North Carolina became part of the United States, Lexington was one of the earliest towns to be established there.
