Lexington is a small town in the state of North Carolina. The population was 9,193 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington-Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by families from Fayetteville and Orangeburg counties in 1792 as a trading post on what is now called "High Street". The name "Lexington" was first used to describe an area south of High Street between College and Wade streets. In 1824, General David Jones moved his headquarters from Raleigh to Lexington after capturing nearby Charlotte (then known as Kingsborough) while besieging Fort Bragg. The town grew rapidly due to its location on high ground that made it difficult for Indian raids, grains trade and slave labor to reach other parts of Durham County. In 1830, brick buildings were erected on Main Street and Cedar Avenue; these became known as the "Old Brick School House". During America's Civil War, Lexington sided with Confederate StatesOfAmerica (CSA) against the Union Government. On April 12, 1865, Confederate Generals Robert Ewell Hardee and Stonewall Jackson reached Lexington just before nightfall after driving Union troops out of downtown Durham County – one of only two Confederate successes during the war outside South Carolina After Radcliffe's victory over Lee at Appomattox Court House in Virginia on April 9th 1865 all but four Confederate States within seven days surrendered unconditionally including Davidson County which had voted overwhelmingly for secession

Some examples include: $5 million given to American Red Cross organizations; $10 million given to Homecoming Fund); $15 million given anonymously through tissue drives; $25 million donated specifically towards educational scholarships; and more than $100 million contributed overall across all charitable giving programs during World War II
