After the war ended, many residents decided to stay in Lewisville and keep their farms while others left for Raleigh or Durham because of better opportunities elsewhere. In 1951, Lewisville Elementary School was opened; it has remained as its original name ever since. In 1963, Driggs Middle School opened after being built on land donated by Mrs. Mildred Dickson; it is now one of NC's oldest middle schools still in use. In 2002-2003, Lewisville High School underwent renovations which included new classrooms and an addition that housed a gymnasium/band room/locker room/hallway (renamed "Gabby" after then-Governor Roy Cooper's daughter). This renovation also added new athletic fields including football practice fields south of town off US 191E (the old site of Garner Stadium) as well as baseball diamond east of town on US 421E (now home to Goldsboro High School). Two years later another renovation including new classrooms was completed at Lighthouse Pointe Catholic Church which doubled as both school auditoriums for music classes as well as offices for various departments such as finance when needed].
