In 1865 Union General Jubal Early started an attack against Confederate General Robert Easley's army near here and many men were killed or wounded including Lieutenant Colonel George Washington Ballou who later served as mayor of Raleigh before becoming United States Senator from North Carolina from 1952-1981). The Battle of Marye’s Heights took place nearby on November 12th 1862 when Union troops attacked Confederate positions across the creek which resulted in about 50 killed & 150 captured with some estimates higher because no records survive that specifically list those killed or captured at this locationnamely “Marye’s Heights Cemetery” today’s Lower Gaston Street intersection just east of Interstate 95 – scene of much activity between 1863-1920 daily when Federal troops fought Confederates also remains one side street off I-95 just south/west of original LEWISVILLE MOBILE HOME PARK boundary line closest to I-95 exit ramp). When finally allowed outside service ended 4 Dec 1865 after more than 2 years Government monopoly Military Academy students returned home with their families so there are few clues remaining today only name 3 buildings still standing high school administration building old post office still stands next door old Methodist Episcopal Church (renamed First Baptist Church in 1951) still stands today inside current LEWISVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOL boundaries

Lewisville is a town in north-central North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,609 as of the 2010 census. Lewisville is part of the Greensboro–Winston-Salem–High Point Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community has been known for its cotton plantations and its locally famous "Billy Graham Evangelistic Association" missionary crusades throughout much of its history. The first settler in Lewisville was John White, who located a cabin on what is now Coffee Road in 1786. Early pioneers such as Andrew Johnson and his father also built homes in Lewisville. In 1825, James Fenton established a post office at what is now Main Street in Lewisville; it served until 1827. A store and gristmill were founded by Daniel Boone near present day Second Street and Old Highway 321 about 1835; these businesses are still extant today. In 1840, Samuel Cotton discovered some coal nearby at what is now Third Street and High Road 322; this led to the founding of the Lewisville Coal Company by cotton planters Cephus King and Wm Hoggins that same year. Cotton began producing coal hereabouts beginning in 1841 when he laid down a small mine on land leased from Captain John Blair of New Bern County. In 1865, Tobacco Trust founder Elijah Dunwoody brought over 200 slaves to work his tobacco fields northeast of present day Lewisville; this event helped create an early black community in central North Carolina where sharecroppers would labor under white owners during the antebellum period up through Reconstruction efforts following the Civil War (1865-1877). A post office was opened at First Street and High Road 324 about 1870; it served until 1909. One important figure associated with LewisVILLE during this time was Revs Billy Graham (1912-1983), one of America's most influential evangelists whose crusades have spanned more than fifty years across multiple continents both ashore and aboardshipically from rural Appalachia to all corners of Latin America Nazarene Missions field services reaching more than 5 million people worldwide since 1947!
