Lewisville is a town in Rutherford County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,906 at the 2010 census. Lewisville is the only incorporated municipality in Rutherford County. It lies on the border of Rutherford and Lenoir counties and is east of Raleigh. The village of Lewisville was founded by English settlers in 1792 after they left North Carolina to find new land for themselves. The first settler named Lewis was from Lewisburg, Virginia. In 1824, James Sutherlin founded a sawmill on the river near present-day Lewisville and began to trade with farmers in both Lenoir and Rutherford Counties. By 1829, Sutherlin had built a gristmill on what is now Lake Drive adjacent to his millrace. In 1830, John Bickley started an egg producing business that became one of the largest in eastern North Carolina until it closed its doors in 1865 due to competition from newer factories across the state. In 1835–36, George Witherspoon organized a wagon train carrying goods down the Catawba River from South Carolina through Lenoir and Rutherford Counties into northern NC before finally reaching Raleigh where he sold his load at Smith's store before departing again downriver for another trip back home. At this time (1835), there were only six white men living within two miles of today's downtown Lewisville - four families who farmed their own land as well as local blacksmiths/construction workers who did odd jobs for others during those early days when transportation was often difficult or even impossible to come by other than by horseback or boat; three churches which served mainly as meeting places for neighbors; one school which taught children about agriculture and household skills; one physician (Drury) serving rural patients along with rudimentary medical care without any form of family doctoring services available outside of larger cities such as Charlotte or Raleigh at this time By 1840 however things had begun to change around here as several large plantations were established upriver including "Pinecrest" owned by Tryon Cartwright which included 400 slaves working sixty five acres per slave while also acquiring additional acreage southward towards present day Durham; "Montgomery"owned by Alexander Graham Bell where over 1,000 slaves worked fifty acres per slave each ; "Emmett"owned by J P Morgan where over 800 slaves labored on a plantation consisting mostly of upland cotton farming with some corn production too; later that year white men arrived via ship called The Duchess bringing news about potential goldfields found near Weldon Beach in nearby Johnston County . These new arrivals soon filled up all available space within these newly formed plantations so much so that many free blacks began moving away from their original homes throughout southern NC into western PA (New York) and Maryland specifically because there seemed little likelihood whatsoever that they would be given preferential treatment under new Southern owner's policies once their lands were confiscated This situation came to an end when General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House following Confederate defeat at battle off Petersburg Peninsula on April 9th 1865 . After thanking President Jefferson Davis for giving him control over all Vance County including Lewisville property upon its acquisition , General Lee ordered all military prisoners being transported back home across I-95 into Northern VA rather then send them further west onto rebel territory ................. economic decline & decline among small businesses brought about housing prices skyrocketing etc., etc., etc....... Many residents took advantage of buying out leases on farms/houses located close to town due to falling values relative to surrounding rural areas ..... Today’s downtownLewisville contains several locally owned businesses providing job security & tax income ..... Main Street still features several farmer’s markets each week selling fresh produce from local growers..

Lewisville is a town in McDowell County, North Carolina, United States. It was founded in 1851 by General James H. Lewis and his wife, wedlock of which produced four children. The Lewisvilles were originally farmers with a small farmstead and culture began to change when the railroad came through the area in the 1860s. Railroads brought industry to Lewisville and it soon became an important center for textile production. The town's population grew rapidly during the late 19th century, reaching more than 10,000 by 1910. However, during World War I Lewisville experienced significant economic losses due to its dependency on military support. In 1920, however, the town approved a $5 million bond issue to finance wartime development projects such as new schools and hospitals. These investments led to rapid growth and prosperity for Lewisville throughout the 1930s and 1940s; however, after World War II it lost much of its significance as a manufacturing center due to increased competition from elsewhere in North Carolina. Today Lewisville remains an important community with some attractive features but its economy is slowly declining due to decreases in textile production and other factors
