Lewisville is a small town in Durham County, North Carolina. The population was 4,565 at the 2010 census. Lewisville is located on U.S. Route 421 and Interstate 85 near the intersection of State Highway 158 and I-85. It is part of the Durham–Chatham Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what would become Lewisville were two families who arrived in 1845 from Virginia. They named their new community after General Nathaniel Lewis, who had been an officer in the Mexican-American War and had played a significant role in organising the United States forces during that conflict. The town grew rapidly due to its location close to roads and railroads and its potential for trade with surrounding counties. By 1865, there were over 400 people living in Lewisville. In 1868, local citizens decided to build a school which would serve as a center for learning for all residents of the town. The school was built on the now known as Park Road and quickly became one of the most popular destinations for students from nearby towns such as Chapel Hill and Raleigh; it remained open until 1945 when it was replaced by a larger building which still stands today (now used as part of Trinity University). In 1870, when Durham County was split into two parts, Lewisville became one of the first communities to be established in what would become Durham County proper; it continued to grow throughout this time thanks to its location and access to few streets but saw much slower growth outside of that due to technological advances which made life more difficult for small towns like Lewisville (e.g., telephones did not exist). In 1907, local farmers founded Chapel Hill Agricultural College (now UNC Chapel Hill) on land donated by General James Hays Sr.; it soon became one of North Carolina's leading colleges while also serving as an important hub for education within eastern Durham County thanks to its proximity to both major universities – things that wouldn’t have been possible without ample transportation infrastructure available back then! In 1918, when Raleigh incorporated as a city under state law – becoming one of America’s largest cities – Lewisville elected Mayor John Calkins “to leadits community out into [the] big world beyond”[1].
