The Lewisville Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1951. The town is named after General George Washington Lewis and his wife Amelia Earhart who died on their honeymoon in 1928 while flying from Hawaii to Japan. Lewisville was platted on July 12, 1892 by Francis Loomis with the name of "Amelia Earhart Borough", but it changed hands four times before settling on its current form on October 15, 1912 when Wm. Hinton donated 3 acres (1 km2) of land to the town for $200.According to "The History of Wilson County" by Dr. Harry Covington III., volume 1, pages 5-6: "In 1912 the towns of Arlington (west side), Elkridge (north side), and Roadtown (south side) were platted around what would later become Lewisville." Lewisville was one of fourteen towns that formed Wilson County when it was established on December 6, 1795.According to "Wilson Countyiana: A Comprehensive Guide to Who's Who in Wilson County" by Ronald J. Meyer and Clyde Denton Smith Jr., pgs. 168-169: "On December 6 [1795], thirteen other small settlements were created within present-day Wilson County when Cherokee Nation ceded all its lands east of Rutherford Boulevard to the new county." Lewisville is a town in Randolph County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area. Lewisville was founded in 1853 as a small village on the Cumberland River by John Lewis and his family. The town was named for General James Longstreet, who helped lead Confederate forces during the American Civil War. In 1865, Lewisville became a Union military post following the Battle of Pea Ridge; it remained so until 1898 when it reverted to Confederate control. In 1925, Lewisville became an incorporated municipality with a population of 3,500 people. The city reached its peak in population around 1960 and 2000 but has since fallen precipitously due to rapid gentrification within its borders and competition from newer towns surrounding it. The history of Lewisville begins with John Lewis’s founding of the village on the Cumberland River in 1853. At first there were only five families living in this small community which seated about thirty people at its peak in 1860 according to one source (Ref No: Pamphlet "History of Randolph County", nd). One hundred years later and census data from 2010 gives us an idea as to just how much growth took place within our boundaries over that time period: In 1890 Census records show that there were only 2 males and 11 females living in what would become known as “Lewisville” – comprising 1/3 of all residents! By 1920 there had grown to 9 households with 31 residents! Interestingly enough even though land value had increased greatly throughout this period; houses continued to be built at prices well below market rates – indicative once again of just how affordable life here was back then! Finally by 1970 there were 137 residents living inside what would become known as “Lewisvilie” – almost 50% more than when it first came into being! And interestingly enough still today despite having seen significant increases over these decades; housing values remain incredibly affordable for those looking for quality homes here! As we can see from these statistics; over time Lewisville has experienced some very impressive changes both physically and culturally speaking. Whether through waves or sporadic instances such as now; anything that comes along happens for good reason when you have such talented individuals behind it - including current Mayor Kathy Hannon (Ref No: pg 6). Today’s Lewisvillians are truly pioneers not only because they live here but also because their predecessors have left such lasting footprints on our community lore & culture alike - something we owe wholeheartedly both to them & our own hard work over these past few centuries!
