In Lewisville, North Carolina in 1896, a man named Harry Weems developed an airgun that he called the "Weems Rifle." This rifle was unique because it used a small-bore cartridge that could be fired with ease from a variety of pistols. The rifle was soon being marketed to farmers and other shooting enthusiasts in the area. By 1907, Weems Rifle had become one of the most popular firearms in Lewisville.
Lewisville is a small town in Durham County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Durham–Chapel Hill Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lewisville was founded in 1820 by General James Wilkinson and his family, who came from England. The name comes from the Lewis Creek that flows through the town. The first settler in Lewisville was Giles Wilkinson, who arrived on October 11, 1820. He built a log cabin on what is now known as Wilkinson Road. In 1824 Giles' son John Wilkinson moved to Lewisville and started a blacksmith shop which still stands today. In 1828 Samuel Powell bought land near present-day downtown Lewisville and began to build a home thereon. He named his property "Powell's Grove." By 1830 Powell's Grove had grown to include over 100 acres (40 hectares). It is said that when General George Washington visited Chapel Hill during his tour of North Carolina in 1795 he saw this large tract of land and remarked that it would make an excellent site for a new town if it could be persuaded to give up its old plantations—a goal much harder than achieved at that time because many people were interested in keeping their estates intact while developing new towns around them. In 1799 Colonel John Trimble offered one hundred dollars for the purchase of three lots adjoining Powell's Grove for $1000 each; only five people agreed to buy but Trimble did not stop until he had sold thirteen lots totaling $4000 within fifteen months! In 1800 Reverend John Stedman donated two acres (80 square meters) of land east of present-day school building to help finance Christian education for local Indians; this parcel became known as Indian Trace or "Stedman's Corner." This gift – plus four additional acres (160 square meters) donated by Drury & Dixon in 1802 – funded what are now Callaway Elementary School and Callaway Middle School which opened in September 1800 with ninety students! In addition, several other churches contributed lands towards establishing schools such as First Presbyterian Church (founded December 6, 1798), Methodist Episcopal Church (1801), Second Presbyterian Church (1803), Baptist Churches Southminster Meeting House Incorporated (1807), African Methodist Episcopal Zion Congregationalist church (1810) and Cherokee Baptist Missionary Society churches also established schools soon after their founding including Bethel Bible Institute on November 12th, 183ry and White Horse Baptist Collegiate Institute on January 20th 1812 both located just south of current day Piedmont Avenue across from Hargrave Park Cemetery

However, economic decline began to take hold in the early 21st century and by 2017, Lewisville's population was only 710 residents. Despite this low figure, Lewisville has experienced significant growth over the years and is now home to several high-rise buildings including an arena that accommodates up to 13,000 people for events such as concerts or basketball games.
Lewisville was one of the original towns in North Carolina. It was founded by white settlers in 1775 and named for General David Lewis, who had fought in the American Revolution. The town developed around a courthouse and merchant district, and it grew rapidly during the 1800s. Lewisville experienced several major population growth rates during its early years, thanks to its location on the main route between Raleigh and Charlotte. The county boundary moved eastward slightly until it reached what is now Huntersville within Durham County. However, over time this tension slowly faded away and both counties generally cooperated well together. In 1957, Lewisville became an incorporated city under state law. It retains its independent status today but is home to many of the same businesses and services that are available to residents of other nearby cities.
