Drummond and his brother-in-law, John A. Putnam in 1878. These scopes were designed to be used with rifles sporting either a bipod or a Telescopic Sight device like those manufactured by Winchester and other manufacturers of such firearms at the time. The Putnam brothers also developed the first scope mount for use on rifles using a Picatinny rail system.
