In 1892, Jeter Ivey built a cotton plantation here which heoperated until his death in 1932; thereafter, much of the acreage remained undeveloped although some buildings have been erected since then: most notably a Baptist Church completed in 1951 and named for Reverend Hosea Bedford (1914–2002).
