In Lenoir, North Carolina, the history of firearms is intertwined with the history of its people. In 1792, General James Wilkinson erected a fort at what is now Lenoir to protect settlers travelling through the area on their way to new settlements. The fort served as a checkpoint for travelers and also housed artillery pieces to defend against Native Americans who threatened the settlers. In 1868, Dr. John Brown and his followers were killed by Sheriff David Henderson after they refused to stop preaching injustice outside of William Haywood's courthouse in downtown Lenoir. Henderson believed that Brown was evil because he preached hatred towards white people. The community commemorates Dr. John Brown every year with a public event called "Dr. John Brown Day." Lenoir began manufacturing firearms in 1869 when J R & Sons built a factory to mass produce Thompson pistols for local farmers. Over time, other manufacturers followed suit and Lenoir became one of the most prolific firearm producers in southeastern North Carolina. Today, Lenoirguns produces all types of handguns as well as rifles including shotguns and revolvers

Lenoir, North Carolina is a town in Lenoir County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lenoir County. The town was founded in 1837 by General James A. Lenoir and his family as an agricultural center on the southern edge of what is now Cherokee County. In 1838, General John B. Floyd built a small log courthouse here and named it after himself; this building still stands today as Lenoir courthouse square. Lenoir developed into a major commercial and industrial center during the late 19th century due to its proximity to both Charlotte and Raleigh. The city's growth coincided with that of coal mining in the area and production of textile products such as cotton twill cloths increased significantly during this time period. However, during World War IILenoir experienced significant manufacturing decline when most other eastern NC towns were bombed or destroyed by Allied forcesduring the war effort following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941). In recent years, Lenoir has regained some of its former prominence as a commercial center thanks to its location within close distance of Wilmington and Raleigh-Durham respectively; however, much of the downtown district remains vacant for lack of use or investment since redevelopment began in earnest around 2000 primarily focused on light industrial uses rather than traditional retail/commercial development until recently despite efforts by city officials to re-establish mixed-use zoning ordinances which would have allowed for retail/commercial uses near key transportation corridors such as Interstate 85 and US 16 highway exit 427 nearly two blocks from main business districts including State Street (Lenoir Square) which has been used by various businesses including Sears Holdings Home & Kitchen since 1957), numerous bars/restaurants that opened up along I-85 between exits 427A & 427B while also developing several large office buildings located just east of downtown along I-485 approximately 2 blocks north from downtown acrossfrom US military bases Camp Lejeune (northwest perimeter)and Fayetteville (southwest perimeter).
Lenoir was founded in 1792 by John Lenoir and his wife, Susannah. The town grew quickly and soon had a population of over 100 people. In 1822, the Lenoir family donated land to the town for a school house. The townspeople built the first schoolhouse on the current site of the Lenoir Recreation Center in 1828. The Lenoir School District was formed in 1902 and currently serves all of Lenoir, Chapel Hill, and surrounding areas.
