In the early 1800s, a young man named Laurinburg started making optical accessories in his home. From these simple tools, he developed what is now known as the Laurinburg Opticruiser. This device allowed people to see in darkness and make night-time repairs to their lenses with ease. The Opticruiser was so successful that Laurinburg decided to move his business to a larger location and continue manufacturing his products throughout the year. In 1827, he founded the Laurinburg Manufacturing Company which still operates today. Over the years, Laurinburg has released numerous new models of Optical Cruisers and other devices for use in night vision applications. Today, the company continues to provide top-quality products at an affordable price point.

Laurinburg is a town in Craven County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. Laurinburg's main commercial street is called Elm Street. Laurinburg was founded by white settlers in 1851. It was named for General James W. Laurin, who fought in the American Civil War and later served as governor of North Carolina. In 1896, Laurinburg became part of the new state of South Carolina when that state seceded from the Union. The town experienced significant growth during World War II because it was located near two major army installations: Fort Bragg and Camp David. In 1945, Laurinburg became home to the first African American unit of the United States Army when members of Company C (4th Battalion) 507th Infantry Regiment were accepted into the unit at its induction ceremony on Elm Street. From 1945 until 1968, Laurinburg also housed one of America's first black churches, First Methodist Church (later Emanuel Presbyterian). In 1978, after years of planning and construction by citizens and local officials alike, Laurinburg opened its first ever high school - Green-Wood High School - which served as a model for other towns throughout North Carolina copied thereafter. And in 1992 - following a $1 million gift from then-Mayor Jimmy Dunn - Laurinberg's Main Street underwent a complete renovation which included new sidewalks and lighting; an addition to the town hall; and an expansion to the library which now seats over 400 people inside and outside its walls! Durham native Kathy Epps was elected Mayoralty challenger against Dunn in November 2002 but handily won re-election with 60% of the vote despite allegations that she received funds from developers looking to build a shopping mall adjacent to her municipality center should she be successful against him in 2004! During her time as Mayoraltiesitter/co-leader she successfully campaigned on issues such as affordable housing Revitalization efforts within her own municipality government along with continuing improvement projects within both public libraries thru grants awarded thru Duke University’s Library Services Program & Saunders County Commissioners funded program dubbed "Citizenlink"
