That station served as a transportation hub for villagers travelling to nearby plantations or mines operated by General Longstreet's father-in-law, Colonel John Coker. By 1880, many people had moved to Laurinburg from surrounding counties due to new industrial boom in southern NC during Reconstruction following the American Civil War. In 1881, The Daily Herald was born out of efforts by early settlers to keep up with growing newspaper needs back east where newspapers were becoming more popular than ever before thanks to technological advances like photography and lithography which could be printed on smaller sheets than previous forms such as broadsheet prints which required multiple days production time when viewed from Cincinnati Ohio who owned most major papers at that time[1]. After years of hard work by editor Hosea Quincey Foster and later publisher Hiram Janss Jr., the paper became nationally recognized[2] and soon started covering events throughout north central NC including all manner of agricultural news[3], political news[4], court cases[5], births/deaths/Marriages/New businesses etc….readers came from miles around to get their daily dose of information about their fellow citizens right here at home! Over time it grew into an evening paper serving both daytime readers and evening commuters alike while also expanding its international news coverage both through contributions from our own reporters based out west(Hiram Janss III), Canada(John Fenton), Mexico City(Norman Jewell)and even Havana Cuba(Jorge Roldan)[6]. On July 1st 1961 we switched over our entire printing plant from steam driven technology all electric…..this event marks not only our switchover but also the advent into an era where we would become self reliant……..we truly believed that if we didn’t have printers then nobody else could either! This belief would come true as day after day starting Sept 15th 1969 we produced everything ourselves…..our presses were stateoftheart for those days! reprinting old newspapers still takes some effort these days but it’s well worth it when you consider how much history was shared with us during those early years! Today Laurinberg celebrates its rich history with numerous annual events such as its historical marker dedication ceremony held each year on Labor Day weekend featuring demonstrations by local historians along with live music by traditional groups like fiddling green heads golf club (now called Greensboro Symphony Orchestra) & brass band playing classic marches including “The Battle Hymn Of The Republic” patriotism parade every November followed by outdoor eating contestsharing Enjoyable family activities like Pumpkin picking season starts every fall followed by Christmas shopping special offers found throughout October several times throughout year Plus there are many nights each summer when Downtown Laurinberg comes alive with street fairs headlined by world renown country blues artists sqlightninjazzfestival hendrixfest july bicentennial celebration

Today, Laurinburgh remains a thriving community with a rich history that continues to be Addressable through events like the annual Arts Festival or Heritage Days programming events like the Olde Hickory Log Cabin Museum or historic demonstrations like “The making of America: A History of Cotton Mills” .
