Laurinburg is a small town in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. The first store in Laurinburg was called "The Wharf." In 1902, the Laurinburg Manufacturing Company was founded and became one of the largest employers in the town. Laurinberg Mills were built in 1907-1910 as a product of this company. The name change came about because local farmers wanted their products marketed under a single name rather than having different names for different types of mills. In 1945, Laurinburgh High School opened its doors to students after years of construction on what would become known as "The Hill". Construction began on what would be homecoming's biggest event ever - a parade that took place on October 21st which served as an opportunity for many young people to get acquainted with each other and make some new friends while showcasing their school supplies and accomplishments during class time. Since then, it has been one continuous celebration for all citizens of Laurinburgh - good or bad! On November 4th every year there is also an agricultural fair that happens at nearby Garner Farms where many local businesses participate including food booths, vendors, and arts & crafts demonstrations by local artists
