In 1945, local officials organized the “First Day of November” celebration to mark the anniversary of World War II’s victory over Japan in nearby Okinawa with the presentation of two American flags at the Knightsdale Civic Center.
Knightdale is a town in Randolph County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,124 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Randolph County and the largest city in Randolph County by population. The city is located on the banks of the Yadkin River and is part of Greensboro–High Point Metropolitan Statistical Area. Knightdale was founded in 1885 as a post office called High Point. In 1919, it was renamed for local military hero Admiral John P. Knight after he died in an air crash near Chapel Hill. The town has two colleges: UNC-Chapel Hill and Davidson College. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) campus dominates eastern Knightdale and its ZIP code 82813 represents nearly 60% of all Knightdale's population; while Davidson College forms the southern border of downtown with its own ZIP code 82712 representing less than 10%. The town contains a variety of businesses including hospitals and health care facilities such as UNC-Chapel Hill Hospital, Duke University Medical Center, Presbyterian Health Care System, Baptist Health Southwestern Medical Center, and Episcopalian Healthcare System; agricultural production includes crops such as cotton, corn, soybeans, sugar beets, potatoes, applesauce production (a key crop), grapeseed oil production (a major marketer for biodiesel), apple orchards/orchard farms (lessee to some 1 million trees that produce five types of fruit each year), poultry operations including Tyson Foods' Harrisburg plant which processes chicken for retail outlets around the world; several small factories engaged in various manufacturing activities including tooling companies making parts for autos and other vehicles; children's play areas are also common across much of this rural area with churches being important community hubs serving both religious services and daycare programming opportunities during weekday mornings when schoolchildren are usually home from school

In 1829, Knightdale was founded on the banks of the Yadkin River by Nathaniel G. Beale and his brother-in-law, John W. Cook. The town's first school was built in 1835 and the first courthouse was built in 1840. Knightdale became an important center for shipping during the 1800s because of its location at the mouth of the Yadkin River. In 1867, Knightdale became a part of Carolina as it was organized as a state legislature under Confederate auspices. The town's role as an important transportation hub continued until after World War II when Interstate 95 cut through it. Today, Knightdale is a small but vibrant community with many active businesses and organizations including the Knights Templar Regiment (a military unit), Yeomanry Squadron One (a rifle squadron), and Knights Hospitaller (an order of Catholic knights). The community has also experienced recent growth in tourism with several new hotels being opened in recent years developments like Renaissance Commons housing complex providing more than 50 apartments along with retail space for both local merchants and visitors to enjoy have made downtown Knightsdale one of North Carolina's most popular tourist destinations
Knightdale was founded by James Fenton in 1790 as a small community on the Yadkin River. The town grew rapidly, and by 1820 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1839, Knightdale became the capital of North Carolina. It was renamed Raleigh in 1849, and then Durham in 1912.
