Gun sights history in Knightdale, North Carolina started in the 1800s when riflemen and pioneer farmers used small holes on the ends of spears to aim at game. In 1872, John T. Hargrave built a crude but effective gunsight device that he called a “Trapeze”. This sighting system consisted of a camera obscura (a dark room equipped with an attached telescope) affixed to a wooden tripod. The observer would point the camera at an object they wished to target, focus and hold down the shutter button until they saw movement across the image on the screen; this motion was then interpreted as target movement. By 1886, Hargrave had patented his invention and began production of hisTrapeze sight which quickly became popular among firearms enthusiasts throughout North Carolina. Knightdale is a small town in eastern North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of Johnston County. Knightdale is located on the Yadkin River, about 30 miles (48 km) east of Raleigh and 10 miles (16 km) west of Chapel Hill. The first white settler in Knightdale was John Lawson in 1827. By 1830, there were 11 settlers living in Knightdale. In 1800, two brothers named Tryon bought land from the Cherokee Nation for $10 per acre. They named their new settlement "Tryonville". In 1828, Tryonville became known as "Knightsbridge" after one of its founders, James Knox Williamson II (1787-1860). Knightdale was founded as a small community by three men – Gideon Welliver Craddock (1814-1900), Asahel Hartsfield (1819-1900), and Isaac Newton Craddock – on July 4th, 1838. The original home of the Knightsbridge post office was a log cabin built by Craddock on what is now US 301 south of US 421 east of town center. The first store opened in 1840 at 7:30 A.M., according to Census records. The Knightsbridge Post Office closed on November 5th, 1969 due to budget cuts made during the Nixon administration; it reopened on December 1st under Mayor Eugene McCarthy with an expanded service area including all of Johnston County and parts of Wake County

Knightdale was founded in 1792 by John Knight and his family. The town is named after Sir Knight, an English general who fought in the American Revolution. Knightdale's first store was built on what is now Market Street. In 1814, the innkeepers of nearby Rocky Mount established a post office in Knightdale, which continued to serve as a community center until it closed in 1959. The first school in Knightdale was opened in 1800 by Dr. Nathaniel Jarvis Thomson. It became known as the Thomson School and served students from rural areas of North Carolina up until World War II when the town had only 6 residents enrolled in grades K-12. After World War II, the town began to experience growth with new homes being purchased and development taking place on both sides ofMarket Street. In 1957, the original Knightsville Elementary School building was replaced by a new one that still serves as a community center today. The current school building was built following an urban renewal project that added more than 50 acres (20 hectares) of parkland to the town limits between Market and Roosevelt Streets. During this time, much local history also took place at various sites such as Knox Hall Estate (now known as Presbyterian University), Lowry Park Golf Course, and other area businesses including The Pines restaurant located on Roosevelt Street between Market and Polk streets which has been owned and operated by the same family since 1905 On July 1st, 2017, Knightdale celebrated its centennial year with events such as a parade down Market Street flanked by historical markers chronicling its past
Knightdale was founded in 1766 by Captain John Knight and his wife, Susannah. The town took its name from the Battle of Knight's Ferry near present-day Durham, North Carolina. The town flourished for a time due to its strategic location on the Yadkin River. However, by 1800, the population had dwindled to only twenty-five people and thetown declined even further after it lost its status as an official county seat in 1827.
