Kinston is a city in and the county seat of Kinston County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 33,721 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in the Yadkin Valley region of eastern North Carolina. The Kinston metropolitan area has a population of over 100,000 people. The town was founded by pioneers in 1792 as part of an effort to expand tobacco farming into what is now eastern North Carolina. The town's name comes from Sir Walter Raleigh's exploration of this area in 1586-87 for English East India Company traders looking for new land to exploit. Raleigh’s party first sighted what he thought were Indians living near Fort Duval on December 12, 1607 while exploring the Yadkin River valley north of Kinston. A Treaty between England and France finalized in 1629 assigned land east of Catawba River to King James I of England for £5 million (equivalent to $ ). This treaty created Roanoke Island off the coast of present-day NC as part of it boundary line with VA – which included much later Kinston and its surroundings including present day partsVA In 1792, Robert Epps purchased 7 miles (11 km) north of present day Kinston from Samuel Ashe for $1 per acre (equivalent to $ ). He built a small frame house known as "The Log Cabin" on his property which still stands today. In 1827, Epps donated 10 acres (40 ha) northeast corner lot along US 421/NC 433/PA 614 called "Epps Place" to be used as a public square and rural schoolhouse; both properties remain today withinKinston limits. A post office called Kinston was established in 1827, and remained open until 1945. In 1865 David Sargent Purchase 1 acre (0.4 ha) northwest corner lot on US 421/NC 433/PA 614 also donated by Rufus Epps became known as "Sargent Place." In 1880 Census there were only 2 families residing inKinSTON when this information was taken so no list can be made thereof however by 1930 there had grown 3 families living there totaling 10 persons all residence being listed together as "The Newcomers". By 1940 there had grown again 4 families totaling 20 persons all residence being listed together under one heading title: "The Big Families". As more residents moved into downtown areas other than their original homes they started building suburbs without ever mentioning downtown names such as Eagle Point or Sunrise but simply calling them suburbia titles like Meadowbrook or Westwood Hills even though these developments are located entirely within downtown boundaries whereupon maps that have been published show those same suburban developments named after streets running directly through their center - ebayeee creek etc... finally we have our current situation where everyone knows downtownKinSTON better than they do any other street name because it appears on maps! Kinston, North Carolina is located in the southeastern United States and is part of the Kinston-Lenoir County, Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded on March 14, 1868, by General James W. Smith as a trading post on the Roanoke River. The town grew rapidly after railroads arrived and began serving the area with passenger trains. In 1924, Kinston became an incorporated city and retains its original name today. The first settler in what is now Kinston was Captain John Soward who built a cabin on the banks of the Roanoke River in 1821. By 1825, other pioneers had moved into what is now Kinston from nearby Roanoke City and surrounding counties. On March 14, 1868, General James W. Smith founded Kinston as a trading post on the Roanoke River with several hundred settlers including his brother-in-law Colonel Robert Easley and their families. The community quickly grew thanks to growth efforts by local businesses and citizens alike. Railroads arrived soon after and served as an important factor in helping to drive out Native Americans from much of this region; by 1925,Kinston had become one of America's most heavily populated towns with over 100 residents per square mile (3/4ths of a square kilometer). During World War II, Kinston played an important role in providing supplies for troops fighting overseas; large quantities of goods were transported through its port facilities during wartime times ensuring that food shortages did not occur back home at home or lead to civil unrest across America which could have serious implications for both national security and social stability. In 1951, Kinston was designated as the hometown of Ulysses S Grant where he was born some years earlier; Grant later served as President Ulysses S Grant Presidential Library & Museum’s Director from 1897-1924
