Later portions of what are now King’s Mountain, Pinehurst Place and other areas were explored by white men during various periods between 1819-1875 inclusive; among these was John Cramer who built Cramersville House on Kings Mountain about 1840-1845; George Meredith who established Greeneville Plantation about 1830; Wm Harnett who settled Harnett Creek about 1825; Jno Easley settled Bladenboro around 1835; Jno Randolph built Randolph Station about 1840-1844; David Osborne built Osborne Manor about 1850-1855; Ayer Cooke built Cooke Springs about 1860-1865; Rutherford Buell erected Buell House near present day Kings Chapel Road in 1865.; Fayette Dixon set up Dixon Station on Granville Island off the coast in 1872 while coal mining was taking place thereabouts . Consolidation occurred with establishments such as these until 1908 when Appalachian Coal & Coke Company organized as a subsidiary thereof with its head office at Maudsburg where it still operates today under its original name despite changes occasioned by industrial activity elsewhere within Vance County since then – primarily coalmining having replaced steel production over time! The company had a major impact upon commercial life along I-95 corridor throughout much eastern North Carolina but especially within Vance County where mine shafts have been converted into resorts staffed by locals/guests since at least 1913 (and probably earlier) – providing another example how industry can have significant indirect impacts upon local economies!
