Knox, and began to be used at the King's Mountain battlefields in 1855. The first rifle targets were also designed and built in 1853 by Captain Knox, and began to be used at the King's Mountain battlefields in 1861. The use of gun targets on military ranges began to spread throughout the United States during the early 1800s, and it is believed that these targets helped improve accuracy on range weapons. Gun targets became increasingly popular throughout America during the late 1800s until they fell out of popularity during World War II because of their expensive construction process. During World War II, Targetmaster Corporation produced a number of gun target models which became popular among American troops. These models featured heavy wood frames with metal plates that could be easily damaged or destroyed by gunfire. Many American soldiers enjoyed using these models as they allowed them to practice marksmanship without risking any real life injury or death. Unfortunately, after World War IITargetmaster Corporation ceased production due to economic reasons. However, there are still a number of surviving modelgun target designs from this period which can now be found around the country including Kings Mountain National Battlefield Park in North Carolina

In Kings Mountain, North Carolina in 1881, a group of white men assembled to form the "Guns of King's Mountain". The guns were made from rifles that had been confiscated from slaves and used by the Union army during the American Civil War. The Guns of King's Mountain was a rebel militia that fought against the United States government. After the war, many of these rifles were donated to local museums or given to individual citizens as presents.
Kings Mountain is a census-designated place in Caldwell County, North Carolina, United States. The population at the 2010 census was 3,811. It is part of the Charlotte–Mecklenburg metropolitan area. Kings Mountain was first settled by Scots-Irish settlers in 1785. They were followed by English and Welsh colonists in 1809. The town of Kings Mountain was founded in 1820 by John King and his wife Catherine as a route between Raleigh and Gaston County. When Raleigh moved its capital to Greensboro in 1827, Kings Mountain became the county seat of Caldwell County. A courthouse and jail were built there in 1829, but both were destroyed by fire on July 9, 1861. New construction began on the courthouse and jail following the Civil War; they were completed in 1865 and 1870 respectively. The community of Kingsmountain merged with other small towns around it to form the city of Durham on February 14, 1907 pursuant to an act ofCongress approved that day called "An Act To PROVIDE FOR THE FORMATION OF A CITY AND COUNTY OF KINGSMOUNT IN CAMDEN COUNTY". On June 15, 1922 Durham pleaded plebeian intent to merge with Cary after being rejected by a vote ofthe Commissioners Court; however this merger did not take place because Cary chose instead to become an independent city under its own charter rather than merge into Durham

King's Mountain is a mountain located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The peak, which is also popular for hiking and skiing, has been known to be a place where soldiers have died in battle. The mountain was named after King George Washington, who was born on its summit in 1732. In 1814, General Robert E. Lee surrendered at the Battle of Kings Mountain and was later executed there on July 12th, 1864.
Kings Mountain is located in the western part of North Carolina, about 20 miles from Charlotte. The mountain was first sighted by Europeans in the 1600s and was named for King George II of England because he had granted land on the mountain to the town of Kings Mountain. In 1824, General John Cranch decided to move his headquarters from Charlotte to Kings Mountain after learning that a large force of Union troops was moving up the mountain to attack him. The Battle of Kings Mountain took place on July 12,1864, and Confederate forces were able to drive off Union forces with help from local militia. After the battle, General Cranch ordered all military units in North Carolina to cease hostilities and withdraw back down the mountain. However, this order was not followed immediately and Union forces continued their march up the mountain towards Charlotte. On September 8, 1864, General Nathan Bedford Forrest attacked Confederate forces at Rocky Mount near Kings Mountain and killed more than 50 men and wounded over 150 others before being driven off by Confederate artillery fire.
