Bipedalism has been present in Kernersville, North Carolina for at least 10,000 years. The first evidence of bipedalism in the area can be found on a stone slab found in 1868 near what is now Kernersville High School. A study done in 1951 by J.D. Payne and S.H. Neuman determined that the slab was from one of four sites discovered during excavation of an ancient human settlement located east of downtown Kernersville. The other three sites were located within a few miles of where Kernersville now stands and no human remains have been found at any of them yet.
Kernersville is a town in Yancey County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,906 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greensboro–Winston-Salem Combined Statistical Area. Kernersville is located on U.S. Route 421 and Interstate 85, about 12 miles (19 km) north of Greensboro. The first European to visit Kernersville was Captain James Cook on his third voyage around the world in 1779. He named it 'Cotton Plantation'. In 1875, Isaac Bibb donated land for a school system and church in what is now Kernersville. The first building constructed in what is now Kernersville was a log cabin that served as the schoolhouse from 1875 to 1903. A second school building was built in 1907 and used until 1954 when it burned down; the third building opened in 1955 and served as the town hall until 2003 when it also burned down. In 1895, George Broughton founded Pigeon Forge Manufacturing Company which manufactured farm tools including hay wagons and seed drills; he also manufactured agricultural implements such as plows and harvesting machines at his company's factory west of downtown since 1915 before moving it east to its current location next to HWY 421 in 1953. After years of growth due to new technology being developed by Pigeon Forge products like hydraulically operated vehicles (HOVs), self-propelled loaders (SPLs), water tanks/pumps/wellheads/weirs etc., production stopped abruptly due to economic recession following 9/11 terrorist attacks but restarted thereafter with HOV production reaching an all time high prior to 2017’s hurricanes Harvey & Maria destructive US landfalling storm events reducing SPL output significantly across much of Texas USA The plant closed again effective 6/1/2018 after over 25 years of production with many thousands jobs lost across TX USA during this time period

Kernersville is a small town in the eastern part of North Carolina, located about 25 miles north of Charlotte. The population was 5,853 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat for Mecklenburg County and is one of the oldest towns in North Carolina. The town was founded by George Kern in 1814 as a trading post on Catawba River. In 1825, he moved the post to what is now Kernersville after purchasing land from his brother-in-law, John Fanning. The first commercial building in Kernersville was built on Main Street in 1827. In 1850, George Kern married Adelaide Beall, daughter of James Beall of nearby Gaston County. They had six children: George B., John M., Augusta A., Franklin G., Mary Q., and Ida W.. The family lived at 902 Main Street until 1955 when they moved to their present home at 530 Hickory Lane. George B.'s granddaughter, Jane Addams (1892-1960), grew up in Kernersville and attended Centralia School before going on to attend Radcliffe College where she earned an education degree in English Literature and became an accomplished writer and social worker. She worked as a teacher and administrator before moving to Chicago where she served as executive director of Hull House before becoming president emerita of Northwestern University’s Harry cummings Foundation. Her autobiography includes an account of her experiences living among Native Americans in North Dakota during World War II. Although its economy has been shifting towards services such as health care and retail trade since the late 1990s, Kernersville remains a vibrant community with strong ties to its past both through personal memories and through local history museums that offer exhibits on local topics such as farming techniques or local military history
Kernersville was founded in 1821 by Major General James Caldwell and his wife, Mary. The town was named for Colonel John Kern, a cavalry officer who served in the Revolution. In 1830, the first school in Kernersville opened. By 1857, the population of Kernersville had increased to 1,500 people. The first railroad reached the town in 1869. In 1880, the first park was established in Kernersville. The town soon became a center for industry and commerce. A cotton gin was built in 1881 and began production of cottonseed oil. The city's water system was developed in 1889. In 1902, Kernersville became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and four council members. In 1907, an electric streetcar system called "The System" arrived at the town; this service eventually ended in 1929 because of budget cuts). By 1930, Kernersville had become one of the largest cities west of Interstate 20 (it surpassed Memphis that year).
