Kernersville is a small town in North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,879 at the 2010 census. Kernersville is located in Randolph County. It is the county seat of Randolph County. The community was first established in 1852 as part of what was then called Cumberland Township. It became its own municipality in 1907 and was renamed after James A. Kerner, an early settler and developer of the area. Kernersville is one of two townships within Randolph County, along with neighboring Buena Vista Township. The original courthouse building still stands on Main Street in town and can be seen from many parts of the village or town square; it has been used as a public library since 1951. The other buildings include the Protestant church (1889), which still functions as a services center for the surrounding villages; a post office (1898); an industrial plant erected by Jethro Gibbs & Sons lumberyard employees during World War I for production of aircraft wings and other aviation-related items; and residences built between 1907 and 1925 by local mill owners who wanted to keep their properties within easy commuting distance for their workers. Today, much of what once constituted Kernersville's downtown core has been replaced by new housing developments: both primary commercial districts - centered around three large shopping malls anchored by Sears, Kmart, and JCPenney -and more residential areas such as streetscape improvements along Uptown Drive that were completed between 2007-2009 following a referendum vote by residents expressing interest in having more pedestrian-friendly development adjacent to their homes rather than just high-rise apartment blocks or strip malls situated close to Interstate 85 exits). However, most importantly, there are now numerous restaurants, cafes/cafés, bait stores/petsitting businesses etc., totaling over 100 establishments clustered near Uptown Drive – making it one of North Carolina's most vibrant urban areas even while remaining relatively rural! James Akerman developed land northeast of present day Kernersville about 1830s when he purchased some abandoned British Loyalist plantations including Great Elm Plantation (now known as Quaker Heights). By 1825, almost two million rifles had been imported into the United States alone! Ammunition manufacturing increased rapidly during this time period due to new technology and innovation in weaponry development. During the late 19th century and early 20th century there were several major advances in ammunition production that helped increase efficiency and improve quality across many industries including rifle manufacture, artillery fire control systems, aircraft fuel storage tanks etcetera

Despite this growth potential, Kernersville still retains much of its pioneer character, with narrow streets and close-knit communities that remain deeply rooted in their local economies.
