Afterward much business activity took place along both sides ofthe Pee Dee River at this point due to new transportation facilities being constructed nearby by virtue of Johnston's victory: Johnston's Bridge (1816) overthe river then connecting Wilmington with Durham; State Road 1 (1825), which extended from Gastonia through Dunnottinny into Johnston County;and finally Kinston’s electric powered streetlights (1883). In 1849 an act was passed by General Robert Ewell Lincolnizing all eastern North Carolina area including Kannapolis so that white people could move there without fear of Indians or African Americans living among them Thereafter many white families moved into what are now parts of Wilson County while blacks continued to live among themselves until after World War II when integrationist policies began within American society led by President Franklin D Roosevelt outlawed such practices throughout most Amerika
