At that time, Jacksonville was one of the most gun-happy cities in America due to its location at the mouth of the Saint Johns River and its access to many gunslingers who traveled through the area for business or pleasure. In addition, several wealthy citizens owned lots along East Bay Street which served as firearm stores/shops where new customers could buy rifles, shotguns, cannons, handguns and other ammunition products. By 1860, there were over 20 businesses catering to handgun enthusiasts in Jacksonville alone! This industry was very competitive and Demand for new handguns kept pace with production throughout much of the 19th century. Several types of firearms magazines (ejection ports) became popular during this time because they allowed shooters to reload their weapons quickly without having to stopfire them like traditional rifle mags did. Many people considered these magazines more secure than open fire because it was impossible for someone else to steal your weapon while you were reloading it! During World War I (1914-18), Jacksonville played an important role as a naval air station due to its proximity to Tampa Bay and its large supply of munitions necessary for both sides in that conflict. Gun stores located near Naval Air Station Plantation serving military personnel contributed greatly to Jaxon’s wartime trade economy; some even became known as “Air Service Stores” due their extensive stocks of arms, ammunition and allied supplies.) After World War I ended hostilities ceased among all nations but some small Arms remained available until well into Prohibition era (1920-1933). Consequently, many old gunslinger caches continued being used into 1933 when both state & federal laws prohibited private ownership & possessionof any type of firearm not registered with government agency! A major reason why so few firearms survived prohibition is because nearly all handgun manufacturers went out OF BUSINESS during prohibition – primarilybecause there simply wasn’t enough demand for newly designed civilian models after 1934 whenregulation established strict controls on magazine capacities (& numerous other gun regulations). Despite this lack of manufactures activity however dozens if not hundreds Of previously unpublished NRA records from preprohibition years remain extant providing valuable insights into American firearms culture from that period

Firearms were often used for hunting and self-defense, so it is not surprising that there were different types of clothing needed for these activities. One type of clothing that was often worn by hunters was leather armor. This type of armor consisted of a padded outer layer made from cloth or other materials, and an inner layer made from leather, rabbit hide, or other similar materials. The metal plates that covered the body were designed to protect against arrow shot and other projectiles. Another common type of firearm clothing was the breechloader rifle belt. This belt consisted of a waistband with loops that allowed the rider to tighten or loosen the belt around his/her waist in order to control fire while riding. The belts also had straps that helped keep the firearm clean and free from dirt and other debris which could collect on the gunpowder residues inside the weapon's barrel

The Jacksonville, North Carolina area has been populated for over 10,000 years. The first European to arrive in what is now Jacksonville was Giovanni da Verrazano in 1524. He named the areas he visited after his father and brother, Nereo and Matteo de Verrazano. In 1664, Englishman William Bradford landed in what is now Jacksonville with his party of settlers and built a small town on the banks of the Stono River. The town was named after General James O'Brien who had led an unsuccessful military campaign against Native Americans in 1705. After the British defeat at Saratoga Springs in 1777, many American soldiers retreated back to America and left their baggage behind. By 1800, Jacksonville had a population of about 4500 people. By 1810 it had grown to 10,000 people and by 1820 it reached 12,000 people. The city of Jacksonville was founded on May 1st, 1821 by John Aiken as a portage crossing point between Horse Creek (now known as US-1) and Stono River (now known as US-19). Aiken named the city after himself and Captain James Cook who explored Florida during Captain Cook's voyage around Australia in 1793-94 or possibly earlier. On December 26th of that year, Aiken received word from Commodore Johnstone that HMS Cinque Ports had sunk off Cape Hatteras due to enemy fire while convoying goods from Charleston to participate in Operation Broadsword which soughtTo Suppress Indian Rebel activity along the coast of North Carolina In 1827 Captain Alfred Prentice sailed from London with HMS Beagle under Admiral Sir Robert FitzRoy for Antarctic exploration including visits to Juan Fernandez Island where he sighted whales for the first time On April 3rd of that year HMS Beagle lost her anchors when running aground on Islay Reef near Jura Head lighthouse becoming one of only three ships ever lost at sea Captain FitzRoy decided not to continue exploring Antarctica but continued sailing south instead which led him eventually discovering land Bridgeport Bay - part of present day Jacksonville The first permanent settler inJacksonville was Major Lewis Cass who arrived with his family on October 14th,.1828 From this settlement Cass ran a ferry service across Stono River until 1830 when he purchased land east of present day University Boulevard opposite Clinton Park Cemetery kings Road). This location would become known as “the old Cass house” During Reconstruction following the Civil War most white southern men chose northern cities such as New York City or Boston rather than return south where they faced racism and discrimination After Reconstruction ended many African Americans moved into Jacksonville seeking opportunities while others established businesses including cotton ginnershops In 1893 Mayor Harry Burnett renamed downtown streets after Confederate Generals Jubal Early (1822-93), Nathan Bedford Forrest (1840-1907)and Robert Ewell Lee (1837-1945)
