In 1865, General David Hunter purchased the Broughton Telescope Company and renamed it the “David Hunter Telescope Company.” During World War II, the David Hunter Telescope Company manufactured optical equipment for military use. After the war, the company stopped production and went out of business.
Huntersville is a town in Chatham County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 7,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte–Fort Meyers–Wilmington metropolitan area. The post office was first established in 1827 and has been in operation since 1848. The town was originally named for Gideon Welles Huntingdon, who donated land to the town in 1828. A post office called Hammondsboro was established in 1792, but it was discontinued by 1847 because of the difficulty of getting mail to Huntersville from Hammondsboro. The name change came about due to an article that appeared in "The Wilmington Journal" on January 12, 1849 which described Huntersville as being " situ'd on a high bank overlooking the mouth of Catawba River." In 1865, hunters found game so successful they decided to open a hunting lodge here and continue operations until 1903 when it burned down. In 1886, two men - John Fenton and Hiram Edwin Hogg - started a store here and it continued to be operated until 1951 when it closed due to economic reasons. In 1896, hunters found another animal so successful they decided that this time they were going to open a farm here which would last until 1959 when it also burned down due to arson by some students during World War II while the school was being built nearby. In 1954-1955 local businessmen participated with federal government officials in creating what became known as “the Great Apalachicola hunt” or “the Bald Eagle hunt” which led to increased interest within North Carolina hunting communities for these animals overdrive and bring trophy home from various locations across America including NC coastal states like SC & VA where most trophy birds went before coming into NC thru APAHP). At its peak there were HUNTING LICENSES held by more than 50 different individuals throughout SOUTH CAROLINA!!! After 9 years of failed efforts led primarily by 2 frustrated gentlemen (one owning property deed & another having contact with manylicense holders) apalachicola hunt finally yielded Trophy Birds 1st ever taken statewide thru state Quarantine program………………….. Later verified thru Field Notes made during WSVF trip…. hunted all over state….. Allowedonlytobe possessedbyLicensed Hunters Only!!!!!

Huntersville is a town in McDowell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,941 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1836 by Scotsmen who had emigrated to North Carolina from Scotland. Huntersville is part of the Charlotte–Mecklenburg metropolitan area. The name "Huntersville" comes from two Scotsmen who settled in the area: John Hunter and his son Michael. The first settlers were farmers and their families arrived around 1836; John's brother James also came overland that year. By 1840, there were 25 families living in Huntersville. John Hunter may have named his town after himself because he hunted many game animals including deer, hogs, bears and other large animals on his property near present-day Huntersville Elementary School. Legend has it that when one of John's sons became a hunter (and probably learned how to shoot while hunting), he began marketing the skills of his father so people would want to hunt here instead of going out into hostile territory with dangerous beasts on their trail! In 1878, three brothers - George Washington Sr., George Washington Jr., and Benjamin Franklin James - purchased 1/4 acre (0.25 km2) of land just east of present day Huntersville Cemetery for $300 (). This tract became known as "the Hunting Ground." In 1886, they donated 3 more acres (1 km2) for development which would eventually become what is now known as downtown Huntersville. At its peak during the late 1800s and early 1900s, HuntsVILLE boasted an population exceeding 6500 residents! Many famous citizens lived or worked here such as General Ulysses S Grant (1842-1924), Woodrow Wilson (1856-1922), Booker T Washington (1897-1963), Eleanor Roosevelt (1912-2008). Today, downtown Huntersville remains home to much business activity but some additional residences are sprouting up throughout the community – making it even easier for visitors to get a feel for rural life back in the day!
