Huntersville is a small town located in Henderson County, North Carolina. The population was 1,087 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from George Washington's childhood home near present-day Huntersville. It was settled by Scots-Irish Presbyterians who had come to the area in the early 1800s. The first store in what is now Huntersville opened in 1836. By 1860, there were six businesses in this small town and a population of only 100 people. However, thanks to railroad development and other economic factors, Huntsville grew rapidly over the next few decades. By 1920, it had a population of 3,000 and by 1950 it had reached 10,000 people. Today, Huntsville is one of the most populous towns within Henderson County and its economy is based on education and health care services as well as manufacturing and trade unions. The history of Hunting Valley can be traced back to 1790 when George Washington's father founded what would become Hunt's Valley Plantation on nearbypresent-day Huntingdon Creek Bridge Road. In 1837, Washington sold his interest in Hunt's Valley Plantation to James Hancey for $8500 cash plus four slaves. Over time, Hunt's Valley became one of Henderson County’s most important farming families with many descendants still living there today including United States Senator Jesse Helms (R-NC). In 1861, after Confederate soldiers burned down part of their headquarters during an attack on Union forces under General Beauregard at Fort Donelson in Tennessee (the first bloodless battle between Confederate troops and Union troops), several residents of Hunt’s Valley decided they wanted to secede from Henderson County rather than fight for the Confederacy against their fellow Scots-Irish Protestants who were still loyal to the British Crown even though they lived within Confederate territory! They formed “The Virginia Company” which purchased some 160 acres (65 ha) adjacent to present day Hunter’s Chapel Road outside present day Huntersville for $4000 CAD which they used as their own private farm until 1865 when they sold it back to Henderson County for just $2000 CAD! After being bought out by The Virginia Company Ltd., local farmers began cultivating tobacco using slave labor until 1830 when those fields were eventually taken over by white farmers! At that point things changed completely as enslaved African Americans began working off their plantations directly with white farmers instead! This process continued until any black laborers caught working off their farms face execution or transportation out west where many faced various forms of slavery before being brought back into bondage again throughout much of America!!! It wasn't until 1865 that whites finally realized they needed free labor so they allowed African Americans access to education and started hiring them directly!!!! Which led ultimatelyto these same black entrepreneurs starting up businesses such as Andrew Johnson & Sons Tobacco company which still exists today!!! All this hard work has resulted in current day Hunter’s Chapel Rd becoming one of NC’s most highly ranked roads according To US News & World Report!
