Hope Mills is a town in Vance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Hope Mills is part of the Charlotte–Mecklenburg metropolitan area. It is located on the banks of the Yadkin River and east of Charlotte. Hope Mills was founded on December 12, 1837, by John Hope and his wife Sarah Stephenson in what is now known as Ingram Township. Sarah's father had been born in North Carolina and died there young; her mother came from Virginia. One hundred men were hired to clear land for a new town site on which Hope Mills would be built. The first settler named John Hope was elected to the Town Council in 1840. By 1845, all but one of the original 100 men had died or moved away, but a group of 10 more returned to help build roads, houses and other infrastructure for what would become Hope Mills. The post office called itself "New Hope" until 1861 when it changed its name to "Hope." In 1871 it became "Vance County". On May 14th 1907 (the date that Vance County was created), Hurricane Wilma struck eastern North Carolina killing over 200 people including many high school students inside Wilmington NAS on board USS Constitution which capsized and exploded with over 500 students onboard leaving their families stranded ashore days later with no food or water available! The damage done by Wilma made downtown Wilmington virtually unrepairable so hope mills began seeing construction activity again beginning around this time as businesses started moving back into town center once again! In 1969 – after years of planning – both the old mill complex as well as a new civic center were completed making hope mills once again an active community hub serving not only Vance County but also Cary and surrounding counties! A year later in 1970 another civic center was completed making room for an outdoor pool / fitness facility complete with weight machines/bars etc... Hitting its 50th birthday in 2013 – hope mills continues going strong thanks largely to support from our local community members who continue to contribute time / money / skills towards keeping things running smoothly!

Hope Mills was founded in 1837 by a group of Methodist ministers and laymen. The town grew rapidly, and by 1865 it had over 1,000 residents. Hope Mills became an important center for the textile industry, and its mills produced some of the world's most popular items such as cloth, woolen fabric, batting, flour, soap, shoes and more. The town experienced some significant alterations during World War II. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, many Americans turned to religion for comfort and guidance during wartime. Some people in Hope Mills decided that Methodist teachings about pacifism would not be appropriate for their war-time population. They formed the "HOPE MILLS ARMY" to support themselves while they waited for word from the military that they could return home. In 1945, after the war ended and America returned to civilian life, Hope Mills reverted back to its traditional role as a small town with strong religious ties.
Hope Mills was founded in 1795 by Presbyterian missionaries. The town originally served as a trading post on the upper Yadkin River. In 1827, Hope Mills became the capital of North Carolina after Raleigh was chosen as the state's new capital. By 1850, Hope Mills hadgrown to include a city and five surrounding towns. The town's growth slowed after World War I and during the Great Depression; however, it resumed its rapid growth in the 1940s and 50s thanks to innovations in farming and transportation that made production available throughout the region. After Interstate 95 was built through central North Carolina in 1961, Hope Mills grew even faster, soon becoming one of the largest cities in eastern North Carolina.
