Holly Springs is a small town in North Carolina. The population was 8,811 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bladen County. Holly Springs is located on the banks of the Broad River and hugs the border of Randolph and Brant counties. The community began as a small hamlet on an upland plateau near the confluence of the Broad and Catawba rivers in 1851, when John C. Calhoun, then a U.S. Senator from Georgia, purchased land east of present-day Holly Springs for £2 per acre (equivalent to $10 per square foot). The history of Holly Springs can be traced back to 1796, when General James Wilkinson erected a blockhouse at what is now known as Court House Square in order to surveil the area surrounding his plantation. He named it "Holly Grove" after his mother's birthplace in England; however, due to confusion over similar names in different parts of America, this name was eventually changed to "Holly Springs". In 1851, Calhoun decided that Holly Grove would become his new home following his retirement from politics and sold 1/4 mile (1 km) eastward along what is now US 61 from today's Courthouse Square to Rufus Broughton for £5 per acre (equivalent to $32 per square foot). In 1865 local resident Isaac Henson built a log cabin on land which he had bought northwest of Court House Square for £5 ($10 each). That same year saw Holly Springs' first post office opened with mail service coming through Chapman Logge Road which currently runs adjacent to Courthouse Square. In 1881 Robert Pritchett constructed steamboats capable of landing passengers at both ends of Tryon Lake and transporting goods upriver until1889 when railroads took over this function; however passenger services ended operations by 1925 because they were more efficient than boat transportation given available resources at that time. In 1907 Drayton Waddle developed hogs outenclosure on sections located just northeast – north –of present day Holly Springs Boulevard; he named this section "Waddleland." This development led directly to present day Huntwood subdivision designation because Waddleland was bisected by Huntwood Drive which ran parallel approximately one-half mile (800 m) southwesterly from its original alignment within present day Hwy 61 beyond its current terminus at modern day Southeastern Parkway about two miles (3 km) eastward from today's city limits since Waddleland no longer extended into Huntwood Township proper although remnants remain visible today scattered throughout Huntwood subdivision boundaries including portions lying within northern half extent current boundaries Of City Limits

Holly Springs was founded in 1892 by Methodist missionaries. Holly Springs experienced some catastrophic events during World War II. On July 15th, 1942 while Japanese forces were invading mainland United States via Guam and Tinian Island area of the Pacific Ocean, an American B-24 bomber flown by Lieutenant Colonel George Patton dropped 3 million leaflets over Japan warning Japanese soldiers of our upcoming attack. Unfortunately for WWII military strategists worldwide, these leaflets were spotted and deciphered by Japanese pilots who bombed and destroyed all three planes enroute to Japan - providing valuable intelligence back to their commanders. Despite this atrocious setback for America's wartime efforts (and one that would come back to haunt America many years later), Holly Springs continued to thrive as a vibrant community throughout the war years thanks largely to its strong economy which derived from agricultural production. During peacetime between 1945-1948, Holly Springs experienced significant growth with new construction taking place on Market Street including three hospitals (the former Friendship Hospital being demolished in 1951), two schools (Prairie View A&M School closed in 1953; replaced by South Hills Middle School), several businesses including two banks (First National Bank & Trust Company opened in 1949) as well as numerous other residences. However during the tumultuous weeks leading up to 9/11/2001 due to then President George H W Bush's Executive Order 13768 ordering all citizens of Iraq plus those working for closely allied nations must produce documentation verifying their eligibility for refugee status or leave without prejudice - many residents of Holly Springs took measures such as staying indoors until after evening prayers instead of going outside for fear they would not be allowed into America if they did not have proper documentation On September 11th 2001 local police officers responded quickly and effectively when hijacked commercial airliners crashed into New York City's Twin Towers killing nearly 3 thousand people aboard before crashing into Pennsylvania Tower resulting in over 500 deaths across both towers before crashing onto Ground Zero rendering both buildings unusable forever - beginning what turned out ultimatelyto be one of history's biggest manhunts ever undertaken! Despite this monstrous tragedy plaguing New York City post 9/11/, Holly Springians rallied together spiritually and physically refusing all offers from law enforcement officials(including offering $5 million towards fund raisers) leading up to what eventually proved successful in locating & apprehending leads involved in these heinous crimes! This unprecedented victory helped create appreciation among Americans nationwide for law enforcement response during chaotic times ----- making it one clear example that our country can always rely on professional execution teams led by motivated individuals willing To Do Their Duty!
