The current governor is Roy Cooper (D). North Carolina has had three Ulysses S Grant Governors: Millard Fillmore (1863-1865), Andrew Johnson (1868-1871), and Franklin D Roosevelt (1933-1945).
In 1835, the first settlers in High Point arrived from North Carolina. The town was named for Colonel David Hill, a Revolutionary War hero and founder of Hillsborough County. The community grew rapidly and by 1850, High Point had a population of over 1,500 people. In 1857, the town became a county seat and has remained so ever since.
