In 1912, the High Point Rifle and Pistol Club adopted their current name – the “High Point Gun Club”. Over time, the club has continued to improve their firearms capability by acquiring additional rifles and handguns. High Point is a town in process of being founded on the banks of the Catawba River. It was platted in 1839, and became a city in 1912. The population was 25,711 at the 2010 census. The town is named for General John H. High, who fought in the American Revolution and later served as a U.S. Senator from North Carolina. The present day downtown area was built around what were once speculative trading posts known as "Hillsborough" and "Maycomb". The first post office in High Point was called Maycomb because it had been established by Major James Maycomb, an officer in the Cherokee Nation militia who had deserted to join forces with British forces during the American Revolution. When General High moved his headquarters to High Point after victory over British troops at Camden Ferry on October 17, 1839, he selected Maycomb as his new post office nameakes (the only time this happened). As early as 1841, there were plans to build a courthouse and school within town limits- but these failed to gain attention until local leaders realized that they could offer better services than those found outside of larger cities or towns nearby. On November 10th of that year, trustees granted a resolution requesting that the county seat be moved from Asheboro to High Point so that more people could have access to good education and health care opportunities available closer to home. It wasn't until1853 when high points cotton gin began operations which led directly to growth of industries such as printing presses, shoeshine parlors and breweries; all within walking distance of various businesses located throughout downtownHigh Point today! The original Main Street layout featured two blocks wide with several small shops on each side with large public square between them – this layout survives today both inside & outside buildings! In 1875-1876 fire destroyed most of downtown including much of the Trade Center building which still stands today (a testament both to how quickly business grew & how well designed it was!). However dueivalry among merchants caused many smaller businesses along MainStreet not too badly affected by this fire although some did close their doors permanently! This period also saw construction beginning on what would become known as Park Avenue– now one block wide paralleling US 1A just north of downtown – which would eventually lead directly into redevelopment happening today including numerous high-end restaurants & shops! In 1895 elections brought about incorporation for High Point into Wake County; however due disagreements over finances & boundaries development occurred primarily along Park Ave.- resulting in part demolition/ rebuildingsof many structures within city limits!! Today local leaders continue working together towards progressivist objectives while maintaining close relationships with Raleigh/Durham areas

By 1860, High Point had grown to significant proportions as a manufacturing center for textile products in the region. However, during the American Civil War (1861-1865), High Point sided with Confederate forces and was besieged by Union troops until finally surrendering on April 14, 1865. After the war, High Point reverted to its previous level of development and commerce. Nevertheless, high levels of poverty and social unrest characterized much of post-war Lowcountry North Carolina until well into the 21st century.
