About 1840-1845 Ebenezer Hickman lived in High Point with his wife Nancy and their six children before moving to Fayetteville to start a grocery store There were also small stores located at Post Road (now State Highway 171), Cedar Lane (now Old Hwy 209), Asbury Drive (present-day US 50), and Tryon Road around this time too In 1851 Edwin Ceely opened the first post office in Alamance County with an initial population of three people In 1865, James Wades founded Wades' Mill at what is now Glenwood Avenue while living at 201 Union Street across from Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church
