After the war ended, businesses like Addison Wickersham closed their doors forever; however, the tradition of Gunsmithing continued at his shops until around 1970 when automatic weapons came into vogue among American shooters (Wickerham died in 1978). High Point is a census-designated place (CDP) in Gastonia County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,547 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by Scotsmen in 1814 as Scottish Town on the "Fayetteville" estate. In 1828 High Point became the seat of Gaston County and remained so until it was moved to its current location in 1881 when Gaston County was divided into two parts. In 1990 Baptist Health System merged with nearby UNC Charlotte to form UNC Charlotte University System and HighPoint annexed portions of UNC Charlotte's campus including the Medical School building which housed both medical schools until that institution's merger with Duke University which closed that medical school in 2006 effective January 1, 2007; however only Durham Regional Hospital remains on UNC Charlotte's campus currently housing patients from Durham Regional Hospital bedridden for years because their administrators did not want to leave their beds empty or move them to another hospital within this large university system.) On July 1, 2013 HHP completed annexation of all but three blocks of what used to be Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary’s maincampus site located just east of I-485 Exit 288 (exit 261) between US 421/I-287 and US 711/I-277; this will bring the total number of acres (including land leased from SEM) annexed by HHP to over 285 acres making it oneida largest contiguous annexation ever accomplished by a local government in America...A new clinic provides primary care services for people who have no other source for care outside their home setting while also providing research opportunities for scientists working at our Research Triangle Park campuses."

High Point is a town in Buncombe County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 971 at the 2010 census. High Point is located on the Yadkin River and is part of the Asheville Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was founded in 1796 by Scots-Irish immigrants as a trading post on the then new route from Charlotte to Petersburg. In 1825, High Point became a town after settlers bought land from Indian traders. The first white settler was James Waddell who arrived in 1827. By 1830, there were 86 families living in High Point with 536 acres (2 km²) of land surveyed and sold for $5 per acre ($40 total). In 1836, William Fenton established a blast furnace near HighPoint Creek to make iron ore for war effort. When production ceased due to lack of ore during the American Civil War, Fenton reopened his furnace in 1865 as an foundry and smelter producing coal and coke for local electric power companies until it closed in 1912. The old Presbyterian church built in 1825 stands today as one of High Point's most iconic landmarks - it served as both a schoolhouse and community center until 1975 when it was donated to the Buncombe County Historical Commission for use as an exhibit hall inside the Buncombe County Courthouse Annex. A replica of that church can be seen standing outside of High Point's municipal building on Main Street today
In 1892, High Point was incorporated as a city by ordinance. The city's first mayor was John S. Patton and its first treasurer was W. H. McCullough. In 1914, the city annexed rural territory to the south and east of it, including what is now Gastonia County. High Point became a U.S. Army Air Forces airbase during World War II and played an important role in the Allied victory in Europe against Nazi Germany; over 3,000 aircraft were used here during the war. After the war, High Point resumed its role as an industrial center with heavy industry such as coal mining and steel production continuing until the early 1970s when it began to decline due to industrial consolidation statewide and lack of new investment opportunities. In 1990, High Point voters approved a $27 million bond issue for redevelopment that included the purchase of land near Interstate 25 for a new urban park called "The Green". The park opened in 2000 and continues to be popular with locals and visitors today; it features a greenway system featuring both walking and biking trails, picnic facilities, tennis courts, playgrounds/recreational areas for children and adults alike, as well as several restaurants/cafes/.
