In 1990, it adopted a new Constitution which granted voting rights to all citizens over age 25 regardless of race or sex. They were called “walking apes” because they walked with their arms extended behind them like chimpanzees. However, the first true bipeds appeared about 50 million years ago in Asia. These early bipeds had two limbs that reached down from the ground and supported themselves with muscles and bonevertisements. At first, these creatures looked very different from modern humans. But over time, they began to develop similar body proportions and features to us today. Eventually, all living species evolved into modern humans because they can support themselves using just two legs instead of four or five. So while there are many variations between human beings, we are all descendants of those early bipedal ancestors who walked on two legs!

High Point, North Carolina is a city located in the state of North Carolina. The population was 83,723 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Robeson County. High Point has been known for its agriculturally based economy and its location on the Blue Ridge Mountains. The city was founded in 1838 by Reverend Jamesmay Hogg and his wife Frances. The area that now High Point was originally part of Robeson County. In 1870, North Carolina became a state, and High Point became an incorporated town. In 1925, High Point Municipal Airport opened to serve the town and surrounding counties with passenger service until it closed in 1978. Today, much of former HighPoint are within Robeson County park boundaries or within other municipal buildings used for government functions such as courthouse and detention center campuses across town from each other on Pembroke Road east of US-441 at mile marker 156 (the original border between Robeson and Henderson Counties). While Chapel Hill is often considered to be “the” University City of Raleigh, NC due to its location near campus along Duke Street – one of two major thoroughfares through downtown – High Point has always been more important economically in terms of employment opportunities than Chapel Hill despite having a smaller population according to most recent Census data which indicates that Chapel Hill’s population growth rate outpaced that of High Point’s over the past decade (see table 1 below). The first settler in what would becomeHighPoint was Jamesmay Hogg who came from Scotland in 1838 with his family including his wife Frances who also settled in what would becomeHighPoint . Jamesmay established himself as a preacher travelling throughout eastern North Carolina preaching Christianity to Native Americans before he arrived at what is now known asHighPoint . He named his new town after himself - "Higg's Landing" or "Higgstown". By 1840 there were around 100 people living here including Jamesmay's son John Hogg Sr., daughters Jane & Eliza Hogg, their husbands David Powell & Elijah Taylor etcetera……………..As mentioned earlier many early businesses were agricultural related like hayricks , feed stores , barns etc……….In 1850 local land sales generated $2 per acre so any large purchases had to be made through trade rather than buying outright………..In 1865 when high water levels destroyed many homes on Catawba River making transportation impossible for goods & people President Andrew Johnson ordered a survey taking into account river levels going forward………………………………..After Reconstruction efforts ended things didn't go well for Lowndes County so they appealed to Governor Maclean appealing him not only because they needed money but also because if they lost their county then Lowndes would too……………So together with some privateers Captain John Coker led byPrivateer John Sibley raided East Tennessee establishing New Knoxville which included parts ofLowndesCounty……Numerous raids took place during this time such as this one on October 24th 1868 when Coker captured 500 negroes just north of present day Greeneville.........................It should be noted that although Data collected via Federal enumeration forms does show slaves being counted among Free Negroes living therein at various points during this time period these claims must be taken with a grainof salt since Fairfax Co did not become part OFNorthCarolina until 1796...............By 1870 there were 3 schools open in high point:1st grade- Methodist Episcopal School (later Broad Street United Methodist Church), 2nd grade- Presbyterian School (later Highland Avenue Presbyterian Church), 3rd grade- Uniontown Academy ( later Robertson Avenue Academy ). Most students attended these schools while their parents worked outside the city limits doing tasks such as planting vegetables or cleaning up fields……….After Confederate Genl Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House all troops began leaving Durham NC leaving behind quite a few families behind…………….In 1922 Main Street got realignment making it concurrent with US 421 instead of leading east/west like it had done prior………………………………..Many jobs available here include Salesmans(warehousers) job bureaus where you bring your product inside then give away samples free if someone buys; Laborers 12 hour shiftslaboring under steam turbines doing everything from changing oil filters on engines to building dams; Electricians repairing wires; Carpenters framing houses; Drafting plans etc…..During World War II munitions plants were built nearby such as Fayetteville Arsenal which produced 105mm gun shells while Factory #4 built 30mm cannon shells……….Today there are several restaurants inside/outside City Limits serving both Americanized Chinese food items called Dragon King Chow ($) while also providing western style meals ($)……….There are also several small shops selling local produce etc……………..Most recently another restaurant called Revolution ($$) opened up right next door giving employees direct access to street parking
