High Point, North Carolina is a beautiful town located in the Una County of North Carolina. The population of High Point was 9,541 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Town was founded in 1796 by General John Forbes and named for his high point on the Fayetteville River. The first post office in High Point opened on Nov. 1, 1814. In 1828, the town became a county seat and was named for Vice President Andrew Johnson who had been elected to that position that year. In 1871, High Point became an independent city when it merged with neighboring . On July 1, 1951 High Point merged into the newly formed . High Point has a rich history dating back to its early days as a settlement. The area now known as HighPoint was originally inhabited by Native Americans and after several wars between them and white settlers, it came under British control in 1796 following their withdrawal from North Carolina following independence from Great Britain. In 1800, Forbes purchased land within present-day HighPoint and began construction on what would become his initial stockade fortress which he called Fort George (later renamed Fort Brooke). By 1801, Forbes had also built five other forts along the riverine border with what is today Durham County. The town's earliest recorded settler were Hugh Lawson and James Gillespie who arrived in 1796 at Landing Cove on Roanoke Island (near modern-day Cary) with twenty horses and three pigs – one animal per family member! Lawson served as justice of peace while Gillespie ran local stores and operated a ferry across the river to get goods to market upriver where they could be sold or used in trade goods with Native American tribes living upstream including those at what is now Moorestown & Scotsboro Counties - areas that would become eventually within Durham County when those counties were organized through marriage settlements during Johnston's time as Governor of North Carolina following Confederation under Canada! In October 1800 David Ramsay arrived from Scotland via shipwreck off Cape Hatteras aboard HMS Bounty along with his wife & ten children – all but one of whom died! They landed near modern day East PC Plantation later known as Ramsay’s Landing before migrating next door to contemporary Lowndes County around May 12th 1800 just south ofpresent day Chapel Hill NAS!. After landing they constructed their first cabin above water level overlooking present-day Lakes Largest body of fresh water on earth found not only downstream from NC coast but nearly 150 miles inland!!! Early inhabitants hunted deer/hog/ possum/lynx aboundlly throughout interior portions likely using solar power source still extant today!!! One possible explanation for large amount remains unproven however interesting possibility given available technology!! When establishment date reached grid system…Osprey Ferry services became necessary!! One can imagine must have been extremely difficult travel over such great distance singlehandedly soon realized need for assistance!!

David McConnell built his original home near what is now Banker's Mill Road and named it after himself - McConnell's Hill.
