The Hendersonville scopes and telescopes company was founded in 1892 by George Fenton. In 1922, the company became part of J.B. Lillis & Sons Incorporated. The company operated a number of scopes and telescopes until it was sold to Cooke-Owen in 1988. At that time, Cooke-Owen began using the name "Hendersonville Scopes" on their products. In 2001, the Hendersonville Scopes and Telescopes Museum was established to promote the history of Hendersonville's scopes and telescopes industry. The museum is open to the public from 9am to 4pm Monday through Friday, and 1pm to 3pm Saturday; closed Sundays. The museum has a collection of more than 100 telescopes (including 20 American made telescope models), plus an archive ofriel photos and videos dating back to 1896!
