That year, a Mr. Sizer met with a group of businessmen in order to discuss how they could make their businesses more efficient and profitable. One of the businessmen in attendance was Colonel John Witherspoon, who had just purchased a firearms company from Mr. Sizer. The two men discussed how the company could benefit from new products and technology that would make it more difficult for criminals to cheat its customers. Colonel Witherspoon agreed to help start the company and gave Mr. Sizer $5,000 in stock options as part of the deal. The first product that Mr. Sizer released from his new company was a gun swivel which he called the "Sizer Gun Swivel." The "Sizer Gun Swivel" became very successful and soon other companies followed suit with their own versions of this innovative product. By 1928, there were over 20 different companies producing firearm swivels throughout America! The "Sizer Gun Swivel" continued to be popular until well into the 1960s when it finally went out of production due to technological advances (most likely due to changes in legislation). However, its legacy lives on through its popularity among collectors and enthusiasts alike!

By 1875, however, most of what are now downtown streets had been built and Hendersonville proper was only a few blocks wide.
