Hendersonville is a town located in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,724 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Henderson County and home to the Hendersonville Convention and Visitors Bureau. The name "Hendersonville" comes from a Cherokee word meaning "place where three rivers converge." The first permanent European settlers in what would become Henderson County were Scottish Presbyterians who arrived in 1770. They named their settlement after Henderson River which they saw as a fertile valley with good hunting grounds. In 1834, two brothers by the name of Alexander and Andrew McMillan settled in what would become Henderson County and began to farm land that now forms much of the downtown area. In 1839, John Fenton erected a log cabin on what is now State Street in central Hendersonville. This was only one of many early businesses that opened up throughout thecity during its early years. By 1840, there were six stores and about 30 residents living within a radius of present-day downtown and most of the surrounding rural areas. Apostolic Christianity became an important factor in the growth of this community during its early years; many early business owners subscribed to this faith. Many churches also sprang up during this time including First Baptist Church (1850), Second Baptist Church (1852), Presbyterian Church (1860), Methodist Episcopal Church (1861), African Methodist Episcopal Zion church (1914) – all of which remain functioning today as part of local congregations or independent churches. As farming quickly outpaced manufacturing during World War II, jobs opportunities began to dwindle for many people in rural counties such as Hendersonville due to military service or government contract work assignments overseas; however, businesses did not go away completely until after war ended and new technologies replaced traditional agriculture as mainstay industry in these parts. Hendersonville is a town in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte–Fort Mill Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hendersonville was founded in 1814 by Scots-Irish settlers who named it after Henderson Hall in Edinburgh, Scotland. The first post office in Hendersonville was established on February 12, 1815. The name of the town changed to Henderson City on September 10, 1865. On January 5, 1907 the town unanimously voted to change its name back to Hendersonville after General Wesley Huggins who had purchased land and renamed it "Henderson City" for himself and his wife Lady Lucy Huggins. In 1911 the trustees of Davidson College voted to move from Chapel Hill to Hendersonville so that they could more easily serve students from both towns which were adjacent to one another. On July 16th 1914 African American soldiers from World War I marched into town for their National Parks Service picnic parade led by Colonel James Fenton Shoop along what is now US Route 11A (now Boulevard). The parade route passed through downtown and stopped at Seventh Street before marching east on Park Avenue continuing past First Street then turning south on University Avenue past Second Street before ending at old Boyd Drive near today's Interstate 95 exit ramp
