In 1865, Doctor John Caird developed what would become North Carolina State Normal School (now UNC-Greensboro). He donated land for this school which opened its doors on October 1st, 1865. Hendersonville quickly became one of America's fastest growing cities due to its institutions of learning. Over time, these institutions have helped make Hendersonville one of America's most prosperous cities with a GDP per capita ranking above that of both Chicago and New York City! Today, North Carolina State University remains one of America's leading universities with campuses located throughout the state including Greensboro/Winston-Salem; Raleigh/Durham; Chapel Hill/Cary; Burlington/Fayetteville; Myrtle Beach/Conway; Asheville/AsheVILLE; Winston Salem/Savannah etc.; while Southwestern Nazarene University has opened up campus space in Jacksonville Beach Florida which will house NC State’s College Of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences as well as other colleges within ensuing years!
