By 2000, however, Henderson's population had decreased by about 10 percent due to suburbanization and other changes in lifestyle such as more commuting into larger cities or outlying counties for work or study purposes than into rural areas like Hendersonville or Chapel Hill that were still growing rapidly at that time. However, growth has resumed since 2000 thanks to new housing developments adjacent to traditional farming areas around town that continue to attract people year-round despite lower grocery prices today relative to earlier decades due primarily to advances within industrial production methods throughout much of America during those years - including increased efficiency through automation across scores of sectors throughout key economic regions). Henderson is a town in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,638 at the 2010 census. It was founded by English colonists in 1799. Henderson is part of the Raleigh–Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. The official name of Henderson until 1827 was "New Hope". In that year, the state legislature passed an act changing the name to Henderson in honor of Major General James Hennepin (1768-1835), who had fought in the Mexican-American War and died during that conflict at the age of 36. The town's current name is taken from Hennepin's estate, Henderson House, which still stands today and is used as a museum and tourist attraction. Henderson first developed as a small frontier community near what is now Caryville. Settlement began with just six or seven families in 1799. By 1800, there were over 100 residents living in what became known as Old Henderson Township and surrounding areas east of I-40/I-85 interchange on the Pedernales River. In 1827, when Tennessee became an independent country after breaking away from Virginia following its acquisition by Texas in 1802, Henderson became one of its several western counties within Tennessee Territory under authority of Washburne CountyJudge John Pemberton (1763-1832). That year also saw the establishment of Knoxville as the new capital city for Tennessee Territory; New Hope soon lost much importance as Knoxville grew larger and more important than it ever could have imagined becoming due to its location on two major waterways—the Cumberland River upstream from downtown Nashville and particularly because it lay along one edge of what would eventually become Chattanooga Country—making it easy for goods to be transported between those two cities without having to go through Nashville or Chattanooga proper. In 1836 Governor Thomas Brown granted land comprising most of present day Caldwell County eastward to included within newly created Hickory County (including parts now located inside Durham) on condition that Caldwell keep all its people within limits established around Hickory rather than move them westward into Cherokee territory where they would have very little chance against Upson’s Native Americans living side by side with white settlers already there since before independence! This “ Karachi Bill” gave rise to much criticism from both sides but especially among Cherokees because their lands lay immediately adjacent to Upson’s domain where he enjoyed royal immunity! Despite some objections voiced by some chiefs including Chief Etowah (1793-1867), King George II himself supported this arrangement whereby eastern Cherokee lands were divided up among Europeans according to their respective support levels for British rule during this period! However Indian Removal policy spelled doom for many eastern Cherokee even though this did not happen until 1840 when General Andrew Johnson ordered all Cherokee nationals removed westward via forced marches acrossomorphously called “Trail Of Tears” thereby finally ending Indian control over portions east of Roanoke Island! Some 4500 Cherokees appear neverto have returned home although large numbers may have managed successfully to relocate elsewhere given available resources!
