Ammunition history in Henderson, North Carolina can be traced back to 1851. That year, the first shot was fired at Hickory Grove plantation, located in Hendersonville. The plantation's owner, General James Shields, was the first person to use firearms on a large scale in North Carolina. His guns were used for hunting deer and other game. Later that same year, another man named John Waddell purchased land adjacent to Hickory Grove. He began manufacturing cannons and ammunition there. In 1865, Waddell also opened a store near the plantation where he sold ammunition and other items. In 1892, Julius Cockerill bought the Hickory Grove plantation from Shields' son-in-law John Hargrave. He turned it into a munitions factory which produced cannonballs and bullets for export around the world. This factory continued production until 1945 when it was closed down due to World War II Allied bombing raids. Today, one of Henderson's most popular tourist attractions is the Winchester Mansion Museum which features exhibits about local gunsmiths who created specific types of firearms over time as well as examples of how these weapons have been used in various scenarios around town (e.g., antique shooting).

Henderson is a town in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greensboro–Winston-Salem–High Point Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Henderson area was first settled by Scotsmen in 1775. They named their new settlement after General David Henderson, who had helped lead British forces during the American Revolution. The Scotsmen were unable to find land in what is now Henderson County and so returned home after only three years in the area. By 1800, however, they had built a strong community and started referring to themselves as "The Scotchmen's Settlement." In 1819, a group of Englishman named Allan Cunningham arrived in Henderson from Transylvania with plans to develop land around what are now Greensboro and Winston-Salem. He purchased about of land east of present-day Hendersonville for $1 per acre ($). When he announced his plan to build a jail and school within the boundaries of his purchase, local farmers banded together to stop him. This successful effort led Cunningham to rename himself "Henderson County" (along with nearby Dawson City) in honor of his original holdings. In 1828, when leaders of both factions assembled at Hendersonville for an annual council meeting which decided on new elections for President pro tempore of the United States Senate and representatives from thirty counties in Tennessee along with delegates from Virginia and Kentucky across the Appalachians, it was decided that northern Johnston County be merged into Henderson County effective immediately due to its proximity to Raleigh and its many cotton plantations taken over by white settlers during this period of rapid expansion throughout much of Southeast United States

It is the county seat of Henderson County and home to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The first permanent settler in Henderson was Captain John Smith, who built a house on an old plantation near present-day Hendersonville in 1784. The original white settlers were primarily Scots-Irish Protestants from Ulster Province in Northern Ireland. In 1828, General Andrew Jackson's army passed through Henderson on its way to Mobile Bay and burned most of the town tothe ground. A few years later, however, Reconstruction began and many African Americans regained their rights within Henderson Township; by 1870 there were only 1 black resident living in Henderson Township. During World War II, much of eastern North Carolina fought for America's war effort while some residents engaged in production of munitions plants or worked as laborers on farms located along I-95 corridor between Raleigh and Charlotte. After the war ended and American military posts were withdrawn from eastern NC (and other regions), most local businesses closed down or went out of business during this time period; this included one major textile company that had been based in Henderson for over fifty years prior to its closure during prohibition era raids by state troopersenfearing it would be seized as bootleg liquor inventory by federal agents looking for any illicit contraband entering the state from southern states straddling I-95 corridor). According to this same report –published two weeks after the original US Census release–the population size decreased marginally (-1% or 0 families) from 730 (+251 residents)to 720 (+251 residents) following Hurricane Sandy’s landfall late October 2012
