Havelock is a small town in Gates County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,730 at the 2010 census. It is located on the I-40 Corridor north of Greenville and east of Asheville. The first Europeans to visit Havelock were traders from London in 1665. In 1810, Colonel John Pemberton established a military camp here after driving out the Cherokee Indians. In 1818, General Thomas Jourdan occupied this area during his campaign against Johnston River Indian chief Alexander McGillivray. The following year, Havelock became a part of Vance County when it was formed from parts of Johnston and Mitchell Counties. In 1865, General Nathan Bedford Forrest attacked and captured Fort Fisher whilestrading up the river to join forces with Major Robert Ewell against Confederate general Braxton Bragg. At Fort Fisher Lieutenant Samuel French built a white flag flying out over the fort to signal that he had surrendered. On 10 October 1865, Forrest burned down French's house in downtown Havelock as part of his attack on nearby Fort Johnson (later renamed for General James Longstreet). In 1870–71 some settlers began farming around what is now downtown Havelock; by 1880 most of them had moved away because of poor soil conditions and competition from farmers near Charlotte and other towns along I-40 corridor. A post office was established at Havelock in 1888; by 1909 it had been discontinued because there wasn't enough mail traffic to justify its cost (the only post office in Gates County at that time). Havelock experienced significant growth starting around 1920 when two roads were completed connecting it with Greensboro and Asheville through town – one running northeast (I-40) while the other ran southwest (Broad Street). These two roads have made it easier for people to get around town; today most residents use only one road except for a few scattered businesses which still use both streets as their main thoroughfare(s). Despite this growth, many aspects of life remain unchanged: local restaurants serve traditional cuisine such as pulled pork sandwiches on Fridays or Saturdays Morning before school starts for students in grades 4-8 years old; textile mills used to produce cloth used throughout the country until they closed about 1990; several churches still offer services every week including worship services on Saturday mornings followed by social functions on Sunday afternoon or evening outside their doors; everyday citizens maintain their close personal relationship with each other despite distance: locals meet up for lunch or dinner almost every day regardless of where they are located within town limits

Havelock was a town in Caldwell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area. Havelock was founded by Captain James Robertson in 1798 as a trading post on the Yadkin River. The post served as a stop on the route between Roanoke and Charlotte. In 1824, Havelock became an independent town after being chartered by General Robert Epps under the name of "Caldwell". The first school in Havelock opened in 1827 and remained open until 1915. A new school was built in 1917 and still serves students today. The first store opened in 1870 and continued to serve until 1994. The town's main industry began with agriculture but since that time it has grown into other businesses such as manufacturing, tourism, and infrastructure development. One of the most notable buildings from Havelock's history is the Citizens Bank Building which currently houses several businesses including Macy's Department Store and JCPenney. Another heritage building is located near downtown which used to be called "the old mill" because it once ground flour for local farmers. The mill closed down in 1966 but its remnants can still be seen today around downtown Havelock thanks to some landscaping work done around it back then! It should also be noted that there are many small towns throughout North Carolina that often have similar histories to Havelock such as Garnet Hill (founded by Scotsmen), Fayetteville (founded by Germans), or Hickory (founded by Scotch settlers).

In 1827, the town was incorporated and became one of the five counties in North Carolina. In 1868, it merged with adjoining Moore County to form Cumberland County.
