Havelock is a town in western North Carolina, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gaston County, North Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Havelock area became organized as a village on July 1, 1868, when it boundaries were adjusted by operation of law following the creation of Gaston County. On December 12, 1888, Havelock incorporated as a town and took its present name from General David Levy Havelock (1784-1865), an American Revolutionary War veteran who fought for independence and later served as Ulysses S. Grant's Secretary of War. Havelock is located in eastern Gaston County at (35.609609,-86.567859). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2010, there were 7,898 people residing in the town limits; 5%were Hispanic or Latino residents and 95%white residents according to Census estimates from 2000 through 2008 which exclude black Americans living within walking distance to their homes serving as racial/ethnic majority since black Americans make up only 2%of Gaston County's population according to that same countable data source

Havelock is a town located in Rutherford County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 8,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area. Havelock was founded in 1838 by Scotsman John Havelock and his wife Sarah Calkins. The name means "hollow place." Havelock's first store opened in 1839. In 1851, the Havelocks built a sawmill on their home property that still stands to this day. The mill produced lumber for local buildings until it closed in 1954. The mill also processed cornmeal into flour for local breadwinners until it closed too as well in 1954. In 1886, the town's first school was built on what is now Main Street by Mrs. Aiken and Drury Fenton. That same year, the town voted to incorporate as a city and became known as "Havelock City" under Mayor Aiken. In 1912, Mayor Waddell renamed the city after his predecessor John Haverstock (1837-1912). The meatpacking industry played an important role in Havelock's growth during the late 19th century and early 20th century; however, that industry ceased production completely by 1960 due to economic reasons unrelated to environmental degradation or technological advances rather than competition from other nations such as China or Japan which were beginning to industrialize at this time.
