Today's economy revolves largely around government services such as education, health care, law enforcement and public works; however many small businesses still operate in downtown Greensboro or within easy walking distance of I-95 or Interstate 85.. Downtown remains an active commercial center with several high-end shops including Macy's department store and JCPenney anchor store among others.. Despite this diversity there are some commonalities between these municipalities - both have 300 feet (100 m) minimum widths at intersections so traffic can move easily through streetscapes intended for narrower sidewalks; both also have wide shoulders on I-85 making it difficult for carpooling/ biking/ skating/ inline skating/. Additionally,[9] much like most large American cities today,[10] crime rates are low despite their size while overall quality of life is good thanks to abundant natural resources including waterfalls[11] combined with strong community support system
Greenville was founded by the merger of two small villages in 1795. The area that is now Greenville was first settled by the Cherokee and then the Blackstocks, who were originally from Virginia. By 1800, the town had about 100 residents. By 1810, it had grown to over 500 people. In 1815, Greenville became a state capital.
